Before 2020 comes to a close, let us re-visit another action-packed year amidst the raging COVID-19 pandemic. BTS released content throughout the year to keep fans engaged and positive despite the cancellation of tours and concerts, and scaled new heights along the way.
January
Connect, BTS – This global project was launched in January to connect 22 artists across five cities – Seoul, London, Berlin, Buenos Aires, and New York – to redefine the relationship between music and art. The project is described as “a collective curatorial practice by curators around the world who resonated with BTS’ philosophy.”

34th Golden Disc Awards – BTS won Album of the Year and Song of the Year along with three other awards.
62nd Annual GRAMMY Awards – BTS performed at GRAMMYs for the first time in a collaboration of “Old Town Road” with Lil Nas X,Billy Ray Cyrus, Mason Ramsey, and Diplo.
February
Map of the Soul: 7 – BTS released their fourth studio album – a follow up to the extended play Map of the Soul: Persona. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard 200 and also set the Guinness World Record for the best-selling album in South Korea. The lead single “ON” has won many awards for its choreography.

March
“Run BTS!” – “Run BTS!” returned to our screens in 2020 and reached its 100th episode in March, making it one of the longest-running idol variety shows. In this episode, BTS played upgraded versions of iconic games from previous episodes.

Bang Bang Con – Big Hit Entertainment brought back concert feels to our homes by showcasing BTS’ previous concerts on YouTube and Weverse.

Agust D2 – Suga aka Agust D released his second mixtape with the lead single “Daechwita.” “Daechwita” debuted at #1 on the Billboard Rap Digital Song Sales Chart, becoming the first and highest-charting song by a Korean artist.

2020 “FESTA” – BTS completed 7 years together since debut, and their contract was renewed for another seven years prior to “FESTA.” Seven days of “FESTA” included unit shoots, unit interviews, games, MV for “We are Bulletproof: The Eternal,” and concluded with BTS’ birthday party, a recreation of their first “FESTA.” But the highlight of this year was Jungkook’s first solo release “Still With You” which was an ode to all the ARMYs BTS couldn’t physically meet this year.
Bang Bang Con: The Live – “FESTA” culminated in the first-ever online concert, which was 100 minutes of pure elation. They performed classics like “Dope” and “Spring Day” along with MOTS:7 songs. The sub-units performed “Jamais Vu,” “Friends,” and “Respect” for the first time.
YouTube Dear Class of 2020 – BTS gave an inspirational speech at the biggest virtual graduation ceremony in history alongside the Obamas, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, and others. At the after-party, BTS gave a high-spirited performance of “Boy In Luv,” “Spring Day,” and “Mikrokosmos.”
July
“Your Eyes Tell” – BTS sang their first OST for the Japanese film “Your Eyes Tell.” The track was co-written and produced by Jungkook.
Map of the Soul: The Journey – BTS released their fourth Japanese studio album that included Japanese versions of songs from previous albums as well as four new tracks along with the lead single “Stay Gold.” It debuted at number one in Japan.
August
“In the SOOP” – This year, BTS were unable to do “Bon Voyage,” hence why they did a refreshing week-long retreat in their very own motherland and showed international ARMYs the beautiful landscape of Korea.
“Dynamite” – “Dynamite” was not pre-planned. It came to BTS at a time when the world needed quite a bit of energy to accept the new normal. BTS released their first-ever English single and made the world go “Da–na–na-na-na-eh.” The MV broke the YouTube record for the most views in 24 hours. The song went on to earn BTS their first number one on Billboard Hot 100!

“IONIQ: I’m on it” – BTS for Hyundai
MTV VMAs – First “Dynamite” performance and won Best Group, Best Pop, Best K-Pop, and Best Choreography.
September
Korea’s 1st Youth Day Ceremony – BTS gave a powerful speech at Korea’s 1st youth day and presented President Moon Jae-in with the BTS time capsule. The box containing musical achievements and messages from BTS will be stored at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History and will be opened on the 20th Youth Day in 2039.
BTS X NPR MUSIC – BTS performed an intimate version of their songs at the prestigious “Tiny Desk (Home) Concert” where artists perform to prove their mettle. BTS sang “Dynamite” with a live band for the first time and wowed music-lovers across the world.
75th UN General Assembly – BTS came back to the UN General Assembly to give another moving speech, spreading the message of “Life goes on, let's live on.”
LDF Online Family Concert – Lotte Duty-Free partnered with Big Hit Entertainment to present a free family concert. BTS was a part of the line-up along with TXT, Gfriend, and other Big Hit artists.

MAP OF THE SOUL ON: E – A two-day online concert that was viewed in 191 countries by more than 993,000 people. The concert was followed by a month-long BTS EXHIBITION MAP OF THE SOUL ON: E, which could only be viewed online. Over the two days, BTS performed songs from all their previous eras, and all the members shared heartfelt messages with ARMYs.

BE – This year has been hard in every way possible. BE is a balm to all the wounds and pain this year has left in people. All the songs reflect our current feelings and give hope for the future. The lead single “Life Goes On” became the first Korean song to achieve #1 on Billboard Hot 100.

GRAMMY – BTS won their maiden GRAMMY nomination of Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Dynamite.” Read more in our next blog due Dec. 28.
“Abyss” – Just a day before his birthday, Jin released “Abyss” and openly spoke about his recent burnout and how he reached out for help. He shared his insecurities through a song for the first time and gave ARMYs a beautiful birthday present.
Melon Music Awards – BTS won a Daesang all-kill and gave a beautiful performance, the highlights being the “Black Swan” and “Dynamite” dance breaks. Suga, who had undergone shoulder surgery, was missed by all.
2020 MAMA – Another Daesang all-kill was overshadowed by BTS’ performance where Suga was made a part of “Life Goes On” through holographic projection technology.
2020 is almost over, but don’t miss out on the Big Hit Labels’ 2021 New Year’s Eve Live concert presented by Weverse, tickets to which are available on Weverse Shop. As 2021 dawns, we can only hope and pray that the pandemic situation improves, and that BTS can meet ARMYs again and continue to bless us with their music, wisdom, and love.
