Twice a day without fail, no matter which part of the world we are in, when the clock strikes 10:13, time reminds us that in Korea, in the city of Seoul, there is someone who understands us. For ARMYs who are well-versed in Bangtan discourse, this is a special reference to 박지민, the third youngest member of BTS who celebrates his first birthday under the international age system, this month. Jimin Time refers to Jimin’s birthday month and day - 10월 13일 or October 13 and is often a reference that Jimin points out himself if he happens to be live at that very moment.
So, in honor of this month’s BTS birthday member, let’s take a little walk down memory lane and celebrate some of Jimin’s special moments.
As a much-loved member of BTS, many terms of endearment have been used to describe Jimin, but perhaps the infamous ‘Cutey, Sexy, Lovely’ is one of the most endearing. Yet, the young man who stands before the ARMY fandom in all his Chapter 2 glory is now a seasoned artist who will soon be entering his thirties. At this point in his life, we can see that Jimin is still ambitious, continually wanting to make improvements in his life and expand his repertoire of knowledge and skills. In some areas of his life, he’s become more confident and self-assured. In others, he still marvels at the fact that his profession offers him opportunities beyond his expectations, such as his brand ambassador roles for Dior and Tiffany & Co.
One well-known fact that fans know about Jimin is his desire to always be open and honest with ARMYs and yet fans also know that in their profession this is not always possible or preferable for the BTS members. During these times, Jimin may openly express that as much as he’d like to tell ARMYs everything, he can’t and because of that he sometimes struggles internally with those tensions. This was very apparent during last year’s FESTA dinner and now that a year has been and gone fans have a greater appreciation of what Jimin’s words meant then. The three eldest members have now enlisted, and fans know that it is only a matter of time before the remaining four members leave to fulfill their patriotic duties as South Korean men.
With this being the week of Jimin’s birthday, fans will surely be hoping that he’ll go live so that they can spend virtual time with him on this special day. Celebrations are well underway and around the world, fans are cheering Jimin on in their own special ways. Whether it’s donating to worthy causes in Jimin’s name, streaming his songs, supporting him through the purchase of Jimin-related merchandise, or attending Jimin-themed events, there’s sure to be something of interest for ARMYs. When it comes to celebrating BTS members’ birthdays, ARMYs are the experts!
Recently, Big Hit announced that Jimin’s Production Diary is coming - due for release on October 23rd. Jimin shared that he wanted to honestly share his emotions and stories that he experienced while preparing his FACE album. Judging by some of the behind-the-scenes footage that Big Hit shared during Jimin’s promotions earlier this year, Jimin must have felt extremely nervous about the album’s release and how it would be received by his fans. In retrospect, we now know that his album and the six tracks that it houses have been immensely healing for, and loved by, millions of fans worldwide.
Jimin doesn’t see himself the way the world sees him. That’s obvious considering how open he is about the areas that are lacking in his life. Charismatic, caring, and compassionate, Jimin is more than capable of capturing hearts and snatching wigs. With his commanding stage presence, Jimin continually strives for excellence. Because of this, he has earned widespread admiration and respect as a valued member of the internationally acclaimed phenomenon, BTS.
If Jimin is your bias, then Jimin Time happens all the time and the infamous words “once you JimIN you can’t JimOUT” will be forever etched in your psyche. But really, this holds true for all of the BTS members, doesn’t it? The positive impact that they have had on millions of fans around the world is undeniable. Their music, messages, devotion to ARMY, and their mutual love and respect for each other serve as a poignant reminder that in this world, we are never truly alone.
