10 Things That Make Suga a Great Interviewer

Watching Suga on “Suchwita” is a real treat. The concept for the show is a lot of fun to begin with, but his ability to make his guests feel comfortable and have authentic conversations is what stands out the most.

This comes as no surprise to ARMY, who have known that he would do a fantastic job ever since the show was announced. On “DJ Suga's Honey FM, he demonstrated his prowess as a host and interviewer, but “Suchwita” has become the perfect place for his skills to truly shine.

But what makes him so good? Let’s take a closer look at his best interviewer qualities.

1. He Makes His Guests Comfortable

We might seem biased for praising Suga here, but even celebrities that don’t appear on talk shows often have accepted to be on his, like actress Lee Na-young. Why is that?

First, the show's concept is relaxed and gives his guests an easy icebreaker. They can choose to bring any kind of drink, from alcohol to coffee, whatever they are more comfortable with. Then, there’s Suga himself. His calm personality, humbleness, and people skills are sure to make anyone feel at home.

2. He’s Emotionally Mature

Moreover, Suga isn’t scared to be vulnerable. In fact, a significant portion of his music explores very personal emotions and experiences. He’s able to create a safe space for his guests to be open and earnest because that’s what he’s modeling as the host.

A great example would be the conversation he had with actor Lee Sungmin, who candidly shared the experiences that shaped his career.

3. He Listens Sincerely

Obviously, listening carefully and asking relevant follow-up questions is at the top of the talk show host job description, but when someone also cares about you as a human, you notice.

Suga makes it a point to listen sincerely to his guests' stories and advice and genuinely seeks to learn more about them. Additionally, as he did with Shin Dong Jeob, he shares personal experiences as a way to empathize.

4. He Makes His Guests Feel Seen

He also pays attention to the little details. He gets interested in his guests’ drink choices, mentions if they are wearing something interesting, and references what they’ve spoken about earlier.

One great example was the episode with the comedian Cho Seho when he playfully commented on his expensive watch. This prompted a conversation about how clothes had been significant to his guest in the past, and about his clothing brand.

5. He Adapts To His Guests

A great interviewer adapts to whoever is sitting in front of them, from their communication style to their energy levels. That flexibility is essential, and Suga does a great job at it.

That’s one of the reasons why the episode with YEONJUN and TAEHYUN from TXT is a must-watch. He’s able to adjust his energy to match theirs, be playful, and offer advice as a more experienced artist.

6. He Shows Great Chemistry

If you’ve gotten the chance to see Suga interviewing a friend, band member, or role model that he’s worked with like TABLO, you know you’ll always have a great time watching and will learn a lot.

He makes the viewers feel like they are sitting at dinner with friends, having a casual conversation over drinks, sharing memories from the past, and updating each other about what’s new.

7. He Prepares Properly

This might seem obvious, but sometimes you watch an interview and wonder why the host didn’t research their guest better. Suga’s questions are always thoughtful, mentioning his guest’s past work and sharing his thoughts on it.

He also makes sure to introduce his guests by recognizing their accomplishments, sharing some fun facts, and occasionally joking around, so that the interview can begin on a good note.

8. He Expresses Admiration

If Suga admires you, he will let you know, and you can believe him.

Two of the qualities that people appreciate the most in him are his honesty and how generous he is with his compliments. Suga makes it a point to make people feel good about themselves. Watch the episode with TAEYANG, and you’ll see the effect that sincere admiration can have on a guest.

9. He’s Got A Sense Of Humor

It might be unexpected for people that don’t consume BTS content outside of their music, but Suga can be very funny. Be that he’s interviewing friends or someone that he’s meeting for the first time, he’s ready to laugh, tease, or be teased.

Although serious topics can be discussed on Suchwita, you can be sure they’ll be balanced out with light moments and laughter.

10. He’s Humble

For most people, being interviewed by someone as famous as Suga would be rather intimidating. However, he seems to be aware of that fact and takes special care in making people feel at ease.

He also shows gratitude but keeps a humble attitude, making sure to compliment the guests and recognize their success as well. A great example of this was his interactions with HOSHI, who praised him endlessly.

He Continues To Get Better

Overall, no matter if you watch one episode or all of them, you’re guaranteed to enjoy high-quality interviews. And here’s the most exciting part—he’s still getting better.

He gets more experience with each episode, and you’ve got a front-row seat to watch Suga’s interviewer skills reach new heights!
