For ARMY, BTS has always been a magic shop that comforts them in their daily lives. This has been needed more than ever in 2020, a year in which uncertainty for the present and the future has become our new normal. We all desperately wish for something to hold onto, to help ease our anxious minds. Luckily, BTS has stayed by our side.
Here are three ways in which they’ve been acting as a healing constant in ARMY's life during this difficult year.
1. BTS keeps ARMY on a busy schedule.
Due to COVID-19 and quarantine, we lost many of our plans and the ability to reliably make new ones. This meant postponing the “Map of the Soul Tour,” canceling trips and milestone celebrations, as well as the inability to spend time with friends and family. However, in the face of such gloomy circumstances, ARMY has consistently been given reasons to cheer up.
Empty planners haven’t been a problem for us; there has been a plethora of content we have been able to choose from. Earlier in the year, there was a special episode on “The Tonight Show” in New York and the much-awaited “Carpool Karaoke.” One after the other, BTS related events have kept on coming nonstop. “Bang Bang Con” broadcasted old concerts for free, even allowing to connect the ARMY Bomb lightsticks through Weverse. Later on, a live version would give us one more chance to enjoy a bit of the concert experience we lost.
It’s not easy to keep up with everything, but, isn’t it refreshing to still have so much to look forward to even when life feels like it’s on hold?
2. BTS gives ARMY their quarantine soundtrack.
Listening to the most recent BTS album is always an exciting moment for ARMY; new songs join their playlists, streaming parties are organized— it’s a whole celebration. However, Map of the Soul: 7 dropped less than a month before the world turned upside down, and, soon enough, those songs gained new significance.
There are words of strength in the title track, "ON," “Can’t hold me down cuz you know I’m a fighter.” Not to mention the hopefulness of "Zero O’Clock," which helps us believe that something might change tomorrow, and we’ll be happy again. Of course, they’ve released a lot of music since February, including a collaboration with IU, Agust D’s D-2 mixtape, the Japanese album, and Jungkook’s cover of "10,000 hours."
Music is commonly used to deal with stress, so BTS has given us these precious gifts to boost our joy all along— before quarantine and after. In the future, when we look back to 2020, we’ll remember these songs that played a major role in our quarantine days.
3. BTS cares for ARMY’s wellbeing.
The members of BTS are known for being affectionate towards their fandom. They always have warm words for ARMY during their concert ending ments, VLive videos, and practically every time they are asked about their adoring fans. But their actions speak the loudest about their caring nature, especially this year.
One example was Yoongi’s “kkul FM 06.13” radio show; on the Q&A segment he answered questions and gave life advice. From the tussle of not having a dream to living passionately and studying, he had a thoughtful response for each question. Even more recently, BTS released "Dynamite." The cheerful song, accompanied by a vibrant music video, was made with the intention of comforting their fans during these difficult times... and they undeniably achieved that goal.
Their appreciation is also evident in their commencement speech for “Dear Class of 2020.” Each of them had a personal piece of advice or encouragement to share with ARMY. For example, Jimin made sure to ask if we were doing well, physically, and mentally. There are so many reasons to feel lonely, isolated, and scared in 2020, but BTS haven’t stopped reminding us that they care about us and that we can make it through this.
In times when we feel like the floor is shaking under our feet, and we can’t trust anything to stay as it used to be, we can turn to BTS for some comfort. They distract and entertain us by bringing excitement into our lives. Music to fill our minds with positive thoughts, or to accompany our sorrows. Finally, they assure us that we matter, and they’ll do what they can, with the resources they have, to make us feel better.
As "We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal " says, “We are not seven with you”; there are still many unknown trials to face, but we can choose to let BTS hold our hand instead of doing it completely alone. When we crave a sense of normality and can’t find it anywhere else, they are there, ready to make us smile, to let us cry, or to help us recharge so we can stay positive. They are ARMY’s eternal healing, our source of entertainment, and our magic shop.
