BTS has tried everything to stay connected with ARMYs around the world during the pandemic. They released a song titled "Dynamite" and did various interviews and promotions for the song. One such promotion was the highly anticipated “BTS Week with Jimmy Fallon.” Jimmy Fallon is known as one of the more friendly hosts in the US towards BTS and ARMY. Last September, he announced on his TV Show Twitter (@FallonTonight) that he would dedicate a week of BTS to help ARMY ease their feelings of missing BTS. The show aired from 29 September – 3 October 2020.
BTS is always known for their high-energy, passion, and dedication to their work. They shot the performances in several great places in South Korea. During the week-long show, clips of their performances were trending on YouTube in several countries such as Indonesia, the US, and India.
On the first day, they started the week with a great performance of “Dynamite” featuring Jimmy Fallon and The Roots. The concept of the video was incredibly cheerful; they danced and sang in casual outfits, and the background was filled with color. They did an acapella performance, and it was refreshing for the group as they had never done that before. In the last episode, they performed IDOL in Gyeonghoeru Pavilion. Overlooking a pond at the Gyeongbokgung Palace; Gyeonghoeru is known to be the biggest pavilion in Korea. The BTS septet wore beautiful black hanboks to sing IDOL. They wanted to showcase that even though their English single, “Dynamite,” hit the top of the Billboard Charts, they are still seven young men who are proud of their Korean heritage.

On the second day, John Cena came into the studio and talked about how wonderful BTS and ARMY are as a group and as fans. He explored the reasons for BTS’ popularity - it is because BTS writes music that advocates self-love, teaches us to never be afraid of failure, and tells us that we are enough. John Cena also talked about BTS and ARMY in relation to their donations to Black Lives Matter. “So, as an artist, as a performance, hell, man we have fun. You know we're doing good stuff. But if we can resonate through the television to you at home to come out of your pocket to give to a cause, like, that's work,” he said.
BTS and ARMY are known for their donations towards good causes; ARMYs always try to mirror the group when it comes to philanthropy. BTS closed the episode with their song “HOME.” They sang a song in the set of a house wearing very comfortable outfits in a blue-colored theme. One of the rooms in the set could even rotate 45°, and the members looked like they were having a lot of fun during the performance.
On the third day, they played the game “Dance Your Feelings with BTS.” The final battle was between Jin and J-Hope, in which they needed to dance “watching Netflix for five hours and getting a dead leg.” The winner of the battle was J-Hope.
In this episode, they also shared their opinions about the Grammys. For them, The Grammy Award is an honorable music award as it evaluates the prominence and the musical odyssey of an artist. RM said it would be awesome if they could do a solo performance with their own song and also win at the Grammys. It is a dream that has naturally grown inside them.
For BTS, winning a Grammy in such difficult times could give greater hope and dreams to a lot of people. They also talked about their reason as to why they released “Dynamite.” J-Hope said since people went through hard times during the pandemic they wanted to energize and give joy, which is why they thought it was the right time for “Dynamite.” Lastly, they discussed their newest album titled “BE (Deluxe Edition).” Jimin said they poured all their emotions that they feel now, such as joy and sorrow, into this album. There are a lot of good songs -- as good as “Dynamite.” They hope that the songs can make it onto the Hot 100 chart. They also reminisced about their high school life and closed the episode by performing “Black Swan.”
On the fourth day, they played another game called ‘Zoom Olympics with BTS.’ The game consisted of three rounds, the first round was named The Groundhog Challenge and the winners were Jimin, Jungkook, Jin, and RM. The second round was TV Remote Balance, the first champion was Jimin, head to head with Jungkook, and the winner of that round was Jungkook. The second was RM vs Jin; the winner was RM. The last round was a battle between Jungkook and RM, where they played a guitar pick challenge. In the end, the overall winner of the Zoom Olympics was Jungkook. They ended the episode by performing “Mikrokosmos.” They even re-created the drone show that was used in last year’s Seoul finale world tour concert by lighting up the BTS and ARMY logos in the night sky.

On the last day of “BTS Week with Jimmy Fallon,” BTS performed “Dynamite” at a roller skating rink. They chose the 1970’s theme for the stage and their outfits. After they performed, ARMYs were treated to a small segment of the BTS members roller skating. While most of the members seemed comfortable gliding around the skating rink, V and J-Hope struggled the most to stay upright in their skates.
BTS filled the week with great performances, beautiful outfits, and impressive set-designs. They connected with ARMYs from all around the world through their music, sharing hope and light on our quarantine realities.
