The long-awaited time has arrived. Released at 11 pm KST on April 24th, we received Park Jimin’s first OST titled “With You.” Created for the Netflix Drama Our Blues, the song comes as a warm embrace to its listeners. Featuring soft acoustic guitar and sweet piano notes, the music wraps the vocals in a blanket of calming love. “With You” is a collaboration between Jimin and Ha Sung-Woon (former member WannaOne), and their voices complement each other well in this track.
Our Blues takes place on Jeju Island and features the stories of various characters who experience love and romance. Accompanying their journeys are all of the sweet emotions and pitfalls of falling and being in love. The official music video for the OST, released by YAMYAM Entertainment, features several scenes between the main leads Lee Dong-Seok and Min Seon-A (played by Lee Byung-Hun and Shin Min-A respectively). The heartfelt lyrics seem to be someone speaking to their partner, describing love as an extension of oneself— loving someone so deeply that you want to be with them always, just as they will always reside in your own heart.
This track is a first by Jimin, who previously was the only member of Bangtan’s vocal line to not yet have released an OST. It fits seamlessly within the artist’s discography, among the likes of “Serendipity”, “Promise” and “Christmas Love.” A sweet heartfelt song that carries the genuine charm of Jimin himself. We also get to hear a lower register of Jimin’s vocals that compliments the sincerity in the emotion of the song. Resembling a comforting hug that Jimin always seems to provide for ARMYs, it follows the theme of companionship, care, and the promise of staying with one you love.
The release on Spotify now means that each of the members have a solo profile on the platform. While there is nothing added on the profile under his name at the moment, we are sure to see more things appear as he works on his own anticipated mixtape.
In a recent BTS Vlive when ARMY asked about the song, bandmate Taehyung mentioned that he had heard the song already, sticking his tongue out to tease ARMYs. His reaction is understood now as warranted, as the reception to the song has been overwhelming love and support. On its first day of release, it already achieved 100 number 1s on iTunes Worldwide. This broke Dynamite’s record time of 8 hours to achieve this, reports coming in are clocking “With You” as accomplishing this in under 5 hours.
The song itself seemed to lack promotion aside from Big Hit Music and ARMYs following, the reasoning remaining unknown. The release date was not set until April 18th, after the release of the first few episodes of the drama. This initially was set as April 25th, but then was adjusted to 11 pm KST on April 24th. Additionally, the information concerning the details of the song being a duet was kept under wraps until about a week before its release.
This makes the records it's currently breaking even more impressive. As ARMY has grown throughout BTS’ return to concerts, it will be interesting to see what records ARMY will break with BTS for the group’s June comeback.
