WEVERSE: WELCOMING WESTERN ARTISTS!

Have you ever heard of Weverse? Have you seen it in your google play store or app store? Weverse is a Korean mobile app that was released June 2019, and if you’re ARMY you have probably known about it since then. In terms of BTS weverse community, it has 8.055.910 wevers and still counting - and that number doesn’t include the fans of the other artists on the platform as well.

Why do so many people use this app? What is the benefit of having it? Good questions! If you love chatting with your idol, or you want to know what they are doing, Weverse is the best way to do it. As a subsidiary company of Big Hit, beNX is an entertainment platform company, which created Weverse to be this global fan community platform. Through Weverse, fans can be connected to their idols, which includes BTS, TXT (TOMORROW X TOGETHER), and more. BeNX also developed the Weverse companion app, the Weverse shop (formerly known as Weply). This is BTS and TXT’s official merch store.

Through this official fan community, fans can communicate with their idols intimately and keep up with their activities easily. Furthermore, it also has a feature that is similar to Instagram Story, “Artist Moments,” where you can find the artists sharing hilarious posts with fans. As fans, it gives ARMY a handy way to connect with BTS without any troubles.

Moreover, a big selling point on this app is how useful it is for international fans. It has a built-in translator that allows them to translate artists’ posts into their preferred language. At this moment, the app is available in English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, Malay, and Thai. Although Weverse was created by Big Hit Entertainment, they also have additional communities apart from their own artists. In addition to BTS and TXT, it also has a community for GFRIEND, a K-pop girl group under Source Music — a Big Hit subsidiary label — and Seventeen, another K-pop boy group under Pledis Entertainment. Earlier this year, Pledis joined the Big Hit family when Big Hit Entertainment became the major shareholder in the company.

All these groups sell merchandise through the Weverse shop, but only BTS and TXT have their specific sections for their U.S. fans; GFRIEND and Seventeen have global shops. Furthermore, ENHYPEN and NUEST are on the platform now as well. It’s heartwarming to see the artists and their fans continue to support each other through this app.

Recently, Weverse has expanded its reach, attracting more artists such as CL, Henry, Sunmi, P1Harmony, Weeekly, and Dreamcatcher. Now, after further developments, Weverse has opened up its platform to include western artists. Three artists from the U.S. label UMG (Universal Music Group) have now joined Weverse. The first non-Korean artist to launch their profile on Weverse was Gracie Abrams. Gracie is a singer/songwriter from L.A. who joined the Weverse crew on Nov. 25, 2020.

Alexander 23 and YUNGBLUD, also from the entertainment agency Universal Music Group, will soon be following. Through the online platform of Weverse, fans gain access to their artist’s music, music videos, and live performance videos.

In terms of this news, I am so proud as an ARMY. Big Hit has done a lot over the years to connect BTS to their fans, and while Weverse is still relatively new, BTS and ARMY’s connection is not. I can’t wait to hear more news and achievements from them in the future!
