Welcome to the Magic Shop.

Any worries you’d like to share?

Any wish you’d like to make come true?

The Magic Shop will be your guidance.

But first, I will need your keys.

Concentrate on opening the door – to the Magic Shop.

Keep calm and relax. Take a deep breath.

Empty your minds and focus.

Imagine a door leading to your minds.

What you want the most, stands behind that door.

Just believe, and your Magic Shop will come true.

Are you ready?

I’ll show you.

Just like that, BTS’s “JAPAN OFFICIAL FANMEETING VOL.5: MAGIC SHOP” has come to an end with its final two days in Osaka, Japan, 14th – 15th December.

Dedicated to J-ARMYs, this year’s fall Muster provided fans with an experience reminiscent of a large-scale concert combined with an intimate fan meet. The glitz and glamor of the stage, lighting, and costumes complimented the seven members’ continuous interweaving of cute, sexy, and dynamic performances.

At the Chiba, Tokyo Muster held 23-24 November 2019 two highlights in particular collectively stole the limelight and ARMYs’ hearts. As the vocal line consisting of Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook took the stage to perform “Dimple” audiences were astounded by the “galaxy-inspired” feel of their outfits, with Jin and Jungkook, in particular, raising a few eyebrows, heartbeats and blood pressures in the process. By the time the rap line of RM, SUGA and J-hope joined them for “Pied Piper,” the seven silky-velvety clad members were destined to leave an ever-lasting impression on ARMYs. Fans worldwide commented that BTS stylists certainly outdid themselves this time.

‘Lights’ (Live Version)

The second highlight came in the form of the first-ever live performance of “Lights” since its release on 3 July 2019, through Universal Music Japan. Fans were pleasantly surprised to hear “Lights” coming from ZOZO Marine Stadium during rehearsals the evening before. Neither rain nor cold could put a damper on their enthusiasm when they realized “Lights” would be making its debut. After the dates for Japan’s two musters were announced fans posted multiple Twitter threads speculating that “Lights” would and should be on the Japan Muster setlist. To their joy and amazement, their prayers were heard.

Limited Joy For International Fans

Perhaps one of the most interesting (and frustrating) experiences to come out of the Japan Musters was felt by fans who were unable to secure tickets. Some countries, like Japan, are known for their strict adherence to rules when it comes to illegal live streaming of BTS events such as concerts and Musters. If caught, fans run the risk of having their recording equipment confiscated and/or being asked to leave the event. Regardless, many international fans had still hoped for a glimpse of BTS’ Muster performances.

Some fans managed to gain access to links; however, it was highly likely that the quality of the images and/or sound were greatly compromised. A third option appeared on the fan meet days when fans outside the Tokyo venue audio streamed the muster performances and although lacking visually, the audio quality was surprisingly good.

Unlike the BTS’ 5th Muster “Magic Shop” that was live-streamed internationally from Seoul in June, only people living within Japan could purchase the live stream link this time around. As such, an additional number of fans beyond those who physically attended were able to watch BTS perform live at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka on 14 December. From this experience though, many international fans have been openly expressing their disappointment of Big Hit Entertainment for not extending this opportunity to ARMYs outside of Japan.

The Road Ahead

BTS has now successfully concluded the last of their official global fan meetings for 2019 with the Osaka, Japan event. From this point onwards, their schedule for the remainder of 2019 and leading into the new year will see them firmly ensconced in awards season while also preparing for their next comeback, rumored to be early in 2020.
