Jin - the Original IDEAS man

Remember the time when Jin took part in the Korean reality television show “Law of the Jungle?” With his innovative thinking and innate ‘McGuyver’ talents, he proved that he wasn’t just another ‘world-wide handsome.’ Taking miniature BTS lightsticks to share as gifts with the other members of the show was a ‘bright’ idea as it demonstrated his caring nature towards others, provided light in times of darkness, and he was able to gather food for the rest of the cast by converting the larger lightstick into a handheld fishing reel. This was ingenuity at its finest, showcasing Jin’s quick mind, adaptability, and ability to think outside of the box.

What about the “Run BTS!” episode where the members worked in pairs to each create an illustrated children’s book? Without knowing how much work the editing team had to do to turn the raw footage into one seamless episode, Jin certainly seemed to be riding on the crest of inspiration that day. Motivated by the enthusiasm of his team members, j-hope and Jung Kook, Jin shared one idea after the other, before the team finally settled on their storyline. With Jung Kook illustrating, Jin writing, and j-hope earnestly looking for something to do, their team story started to take shape. For those of our readers who watched that particular episode, which was your favorite story?

More recently, Jin turned his attention back to one of his favorite activities — “MapleStory.” This video game is known to be one that Jin is very fond of and the BTS members have already enjoyed one collaboration with the game designers. In 2020 they came together to design items that carried their BTS signature and flair. This time Jin ventured out on his own and took on the role of ‘Office Worker Kim Seokjin’ with Nexon, the South Korean publishing agency for MapleStory. During his game design/planning ‘internship,’ he had the opportunity to present several ideas to his seniors that he believed could enhance the game’s features and the Mapler’s gaming experiences.

After his episodes aired, Jin shared with ARMYs that his PowerPoint presentation seemed to go well. Ever the ‘ideas’ man, Jin even managed to speak again with Nexon’s CEO during a MapleStory live stream, during which more of his ideas were shared. Jin’s dedication to the game has spanned nearly two decades, so it’s not surprising that he has become somewhat of an ‘expert’ in all things MapleStory. Fortunately, several of Jin’s ideas were adopted by the company, yet there were still some ideas that didn’t make the cut. Perhaps those will be stored away, refined, and represented at a later date — who knows?

Interestingly, Jin is not only known for his many ideas, he’s also known for his creative flair, especially when it comes to clothing and fashion. Over the years he’s put together (and modeled) a few outfits that would definitely have turned heads and his creative thinking didn’t stop there. Flower arranging, cooking, special events for fans at their BTS concerts — the list is endless. More recently he caught the attention of fans when he posted on Weverse that BigHit should release bread or pastries with BTS stickers in them. Can you imagine the chaos if that happened — definitely has the makings of another ‘sold out’ product. Perhaps Jin’s most impressive creation though was his precious RJ — his alpaca that he spent many years designing — long before the BT21 characters were created.

RM once mentioned the ‘3 Bs’ — bed, bath, and bus as being ideal sources for drawing inspiration, a theory influenced by Ludwig Wittgenstein, a philosopher of the 20th Century. Wittgenstein believed that our ability to generate ideas, be creative, innovative, and think outside the box are more prominent when the body, mind, (and perhaps the soul too) are in a relaxed state. When we consider Jin’s personal motto which is to be happy and to make others happy as well, we can see how it might be possible for him to be such a prolific generator of ideas.

We look forward to Jin’s next creative endeavor and maybe, we can take some inspiration from him for ourselves.
