#BTS is Coming

BTS is Coming, and social media is on fire!

SMERALDO BOOKS made a surprise comeback in July with their first post in over a year, heralding a return of “THE NOTES” series. As ARMYs started to get back on track with the storyline, Smeraldo suddenly upped the ante by introducing a poll. This gave ARMYs an interactive platform to choose from either Option A or B to determine what comes next. Now, some are saying that this development is a lead-in to the new BTS mobile game set in the Bangtan Universe, scheduled to be released later this year. The Notes, the poll, the theories—the deeper we go, the more we have to ask ourselves, how are we contributing to their fates?

‘BTS is Coming’, and Columbia Records (the official distributor for BTS’s music in the United States) had ARMYs scrambling. Firstly, to decipher the series of 7 timers that were posted at the end of July and then to theorize what those numbers and colors could represent. ARMYs soon learned that these numbers were timers that counted down to specific dates:

  • July 31, 12AM KST

  • August 4, 12AM KST

  • August 5, 12AM KST

  • August 7, 12AM KST

  • August 19, 12AM KST

  • August 21, 1PM KST

  • August 22, 12AM KST

They also surmised that the colors represented each of the boy’s mics, suggesting that perhaps a teaser from each member or even better—a song—was on the way?

Based on these thoughts, ARMYs expected the first ‘event’ to drop at midnight (KST). However, judging by the posts that greeted the first day of August, the only thing that dropped was ARMYs’ IQs as many felt that they had been well and truly “clowned” by Big Hit. Instead of content that is both wonderful and amazing, the only thing that showed up was a reminder to connect with Spotify. That was it—nothing more, nothing less.

‘BTS is Coming’, along with their first English OT7 digital single “Dynamite”—with a release date of August 21, followed by their comeback album later in the year. Considering the number of times BTS has been asked if they will ever do a full album in English, ARMYs have once again found ways to see the funny side. One example was this hilarious ‘trojan horse’ meme. Although we weren’t able to credit the source of this gem, we do appreciate @purple_JK97 for sharing it. As the ARMY powerhouse kicks in, goals have been set and shared via social media encouraging ARMYs to boost their shazams, streams across multiple platforms, and YouTube views.

‘BTS is Coming’, and if you’ve been following “I-Land”, South Korea’s most recent survival reality show, you would have heard that BTS will be making a guest appearance on the show’s 7th episode due to be aired August 14. Currently, the show is taking a two-week hiatus. When it returns on the 14th with Part 2 of the series and BTS, the final 12 members will also be revealed.

“I-Land” is an initiative led by BELIFT Lab, “an IP based content media company established by CJ ENM and Big Hit Entertainment.” The show airs weekly on Friday nights and shows the trainees completing a series of tests to demonstrate their talents and skills. If all goes according to Big Hit’s Corporate Briefing plan that was shared earlier this year, a new Big Hit Label boy group will debut in 2022. As of yet, the final number of members is unknown.

‘BTS is Coming’, and we end this blog on a high with the announcement that BTS's newest show titled “In the SOOP BTS Ver.” is coming to our screens from August 20 onwards. Available to global audiences on Weverse, it is an opportunity to see our favorite septet enjoying a little time to themselves at a tranquil camping spot in Korea. The series’ byline, which reads 일상과 휴식 그 사이 (between daily life and rest), will show the members enjoying everyday life, doing the things they like to do. “In the SOOP BTS Ver.” will highlight their brief but well-earned hiatus from the hustle and bustle of their busy work schedules.

‘BTS is Coming’, and August 2020 is gearing up to be an exciting month for ARMYs with all the new BTS content coming our way. With the whole world in COVID-19 lockdown, many fans wondered what “Bon Voyage” might look like this year. “In the SOOP” answers that for us.

No matter what BTS has in store for ARMYs, whether it’s a guest appearance or a new single, a 40-minute VLive, or an eight-week series, if ‘BTS is Coming’, then so is ARMY. They are the yin to our yangthe reason why we do what we do. It is impossible to breathe without air and in the world of BTS x ARMY, it is also impossible to imagine our lives without them.
