Following the first part of this blog, we are back to revisit other underrated gemstones that BTS has released. If you haven’t read the first part of this blog, feel free to check it out and let us know of any other hidden gems we haven’t mentioned.
Originally a song from a former BTS member, the septet released the renewed version on SoundCloud for their 2015 FESTA.
“We’re bulletproof, you can’t aim your guns at us.”
Savage from the start, BTS challenge their rivals and haters through this song. They also unleashed overflowing energy and confidence when they performed this song for the first time during the “Live Trilogy Episode I: BTS BEGINS” tour. This song debuts an iconic SUGA’s verse that was later used in Agust D’s title track, Agust D.
This cute and sweet song from 2 Cool 4 Skool album has heart-wrenching lyrics.
“You’re not even mine anymore, but why do I feel like you’re being taken away?”
Driven by the rapping, this song talks about a post-breakup situation where the boy realizes he still has feelings for his ex-girlfriend, even after she has moved on.
“I contemplate if I should click like or not, it repeats many times.”
The dilemma is realistic, as he contemplates whether or not he should click the ‘like button’ on his ex-girlfriend’s post, but he doesn’t want to seem like he cannot move on from her. A relatable song for some people, right?
ROAD/PATH
Being a Hidden Track for BTS debut album 2 Cool 4 Skool, this song is only available by purchasing the physical copy of the album.
“Would I have changed? If I had chosen a different path if I had stopped and looked back?”
BTS express the obstacles that they had to face during their trainee days, predominantly by the rapping in the song. Additionally mentioning the many sacrifices that they made and though they were greedy and ambitious, they were also alone and unsure.
“I walked the lightless tunnels on my own. I thought I was alone, but I’ve learned that we are seven.”
Later, they realized that they are seven together under the name “Bangtan,” and they could face the unforeseen future with a smile.
This unique-titled song from Dark & Wild expressed the septet’s frustration towards the 21st-century generation’s addiction to cell phones.
“Everyone says it’s smart, but we’re all getting dumber.”
Virtual worlds are indeed addictive as we can become anyone or anything we want, but there are also consequences; we become thirsty for appreciation and neglect our responsibilities.
“Sometimes, I miss the times when people talked face to face. Communication increased but between us is a noisy silence.”
As we become addicted to the virtual world, we start to unconsciously wither away from our real-life friends, forgetting that virtual friends have a higher possibility to disappear.
December 21st, 2015 was a memorable day as J-Hope published his first solo project after debut; 1 Verse.
“I don’t wear a mask, that’s my motto. I live while doing what I’ll do”
Using the track sample El Chapo by The Game & Skrillex, J-Hope spits fire as he describes how he also had his bad days, but with his members and his fans on his side, the negativity thrown at him doesn’t bother him at all.
“I’ll lightly step on the road my fans have given me, rising through the efforts of my brother.”
Also known as Hip Hop Lover, this song was track four from Dark & Wild. Originally debuting as a hip-hop group, this song was like an anthem to their love for the genre.
“Even if people hold me down and warn me, hip-hop persists me, and completely turns me inside out.”
This song is as if BTS are telling a story of how hip-hop propelled them through everything that was questioning their path and trying to hold them down. This song also shows how knowledgeable they are with the hip-hop culture, how appreciative they are to old school music, not only to ‘have swag’ or be a wannabe, but rather real enthusiasts who hold substance to their love.
“Everyone asks me, what is hip hop? Then I confidently answer, my everything.”
Looking back at their old selves seems like BTS’ favorite topic during their early years.
“My childhood days were impatient to be an adult, but each day was filled with joy”
Track nine from Skool Luv Affair is not only celebrating their joyful and hopeful childhood but also talks about how their lives changed since they debuted.
“Now jump to the stage, we are the new generation heroes.”
Instead of jumping on their childish trampoline, they are jumping on the stage now, letting their worries go as they become the heroes of their life that they had only dreamed of before.
Trouble saw the light even before BTS’ debut. Sung by Jin and RM, this song sparked a few controversies because of the lyrics, even to the point that RM had to apologize multiple times during their early years. But because of this song, we were able to see the growth of Kim Namjoon, as well as BTS, as they always put an effort to learn more about themselves to improve themselves, as we have seen over the years.
BTS has always been honest, sincere, and open to all kinds of genres and topics. Ranging from a break-up song to a song about how their love for hip-hop has united them as one, these gemstones alone were enough proof. BTS’ love for music has been unbreakable since day one and because of this, they have never released an empty song, even songs with lighter topics have depth and meaning, that we can always learn from.
