BTS is known as a group from Big Hit Entertainment. In the K-pop industry, most entertainment companies will set rules to keep their artists in line with the company’s expectations. As a company, Big Hit also sets its own rules. Some people may think that these rules are to make sure that BTS are kept in line. Others may think that these are more guidelines (rather than strict rules) to make sure that BTS are kept healthy and safe. Especially, nowadays, with BTS' global impact and audience growing every day.
However, for ARMYs who have been around for a while, it is no secret that BTS have bent, broken, and sometimes outright ignored the rules that Big Hit made because they did not want to follow them. Here are some great moments where the BTS members showed us just how wicked, daring, and playful they can be when it comes to reinterpreting company rules.
Jin, as the oldest member, always finds a way to break the rules. For example, Big Hit hired hairstylists for a specific purpose, but it seemed like Jin, at that time, wanted to try something by himself. In February of 2018, he posted on Twitter that he cut his own bangs with kitchen scissors. The result—he still looked cute and handsome as always, but maybe we shouldn’t let him get hold of scissors again or else he may continue to cut his own hair.

As we all know, Jin is called Worldwide Handsome for a reason. Back in August 2018, Jin showed up at a “Music Bank” rehearsal in his latest photo concept outfit for the album Love Yourself: Answer. Whilst the others wore casual outfits, Jin’s outfit was chosen with the help of Suga and J-hope. A source from Big Hit Entertainment explained to Star News, “Jin wore that outfit as part of his personal surprise event for fans.” At this point, we should not be surprised that he actually totally nailed the style.
BTS has their own Webtoon story, titled Save Me, released in January 2019. With the Webtoon, we are not allowed to screenshot the story and post it on social media; if we break the rule, the company can sue us. This rule became another point of adventure for the BTS members. Jimin, in January of 2019, took a screenshot of the prologue of the story and posted it on their Twitter. It instantly grabbed the attention of the fans, who told him he needed to be careful because the company might sue him.
Jimin surely is not the only member who posts screenshots of copyrighted material on their Twitter. The group’s leader RM is known for doing this too. In June of 2019, RM caused fans to trend the hashtag #NamjoonGoingToJailParty because he posted two tweets about him playing the BTS World game on his phone.
What makes this even more funny, though, is that the official Twitter account of BTS World replied and quoted RM’s tweet and seemed to not recognize what RM had done.
Jin, RM, and Jimin are not the only members that break the rules; along with them, there is J-hope, who was caught streaming his own single on a fanmade YouTube channel during his VLive in January of 2019. This video violated the rule that Big Hit made about copyright. This violation didn't end up having any legal repercussions, and ARMYs congratulated the owner of the channel on Twitter after she tweeted about what had occurred. At this point, we should not be surprised if the boys have their own accounts on Twitter and YouTube and are fangirling with us. Maybe they are one of your mutual ARMYs, who knows!

We should not put Jin and Jimin together during a VLive, or we may see them doing something that Big Hit forbids them from doing. Back in September, 2018, Jin and Jimin filmed a VLive together for Jin’s “Eat Jin'' broadcast. At the time, Jin wanted to drink alcohol, but Jimin reminded him not to do that because there might be some underage ARMYs watching their VLive. Jin cheekily responded with, “I don’t follow what the agency says.” He then came up with a workaround where they could drink alcohol outside of the camera frame, then return to their seats while pretending that they were only having cola. This instantly made the younger member laugh with embarrassment.

These are just a few fun examples of when the BTS members chose not to follow the rules, and while Big Hit always tries to do what is best for their artists, we have to wonder sometimes just “who works for whom?” Because of their mischievous natures, it is highly likely that we will see more of these moments in the future, and as long as the BTS members are happy, we surely should be happy too. Let’s wait to see what kind of rules they will bend, break, or totally ignore in the future.
