Borasaek Vision - Year 1

Writing that title was a very strange experience.

Normally at Borasaek Vision, one of our primary tenets is that we don’t get personal — unless an article is specifically marked as an opinion piece, of course. We take our job as a BTS news organization seriously, and a big part of doing that job justice is to put our opinions aside and write as objectively as possible.

This time, however, we’re doing something a little bit different. It’s our first anniversary this week, and we want to celebrate and reflect on the past year. But to do that, we’ll have to get personal. Please forgive us for it this time (we promise we’ll resume normal scheduling later in the week).

Without question, 2020 has been a difficult year for everyone. It has affected each one of us — from the members of BTS all the way through to the newest ARMY. It’s almost inconceivable to think that an entire year has passed — so much has happened, and yet there are things that didn’t happen which should have; time has flown by and yet it also seems to have dragged. This is why it seems so strange to have written the headline for this article — it’s almost surreal to say that one year has gone by.

This project began with a small team of people who had a vision: to attempt to conquer the gray watchtower of Western media on one side, while BTS themselves strive to climb the walls of the ivory castle that is the Western music industry on the other. Now, one year later, we have gathered more people who share the same dream, and who want to ride this project train with us to the very farthest station we can reach.

It has been fascinating to watch as the team has expanded. Over the course of several months, every staffer has clicked into place with their respective teams and within the larger picture of the organization — finding their niche and filling a void that we didn’t know was theirs until they came along and filled it.

None of what we do would be possible without the team of people around us. No one person is capable of doing every task; no one person can keep a train rolling smoothly down the tracks. It is something that requires teamwork and effort and communication.

Our team is scattered across the globe. Someone could, quite literally, circumvent the globe by hopping from one staffer’s location to the next. To be this spread out, and to still manage doing what we do, is almost a miracle, and we couldn’t manage it at all without the means and help of effective communication.

In so many ways, communication is the backbone of our efforts. If we couldn’t manage that, we couldn’t do anything. As ARMY, we agree on a lot of things — we’re like-minded people, after all. But if we don’t agree on something, as rare as it may be, it doesn’t matter. Even in our times of greatest stress, the one thing that we can all agree upon is respect: treating each other with respect in all our conversations and maintaining respect for each other’s skills.

It’s partly professionalism that drives this, yes, but there’s something else, too, that’s hard to quantify in words. When establishing Borasaek Vision, the founders were committed to making it not just a workplace, not just an office, but a home. A place where ARMY could be united not just in our love of BTS and our desire to see them represented correctly in the media, but also in our willingness to learn from each other, help each other through the rough days, and ultimately grow as people.

We are more than just colleagues — we are also friends.

Do we disagree occasionally? Of course. Are heated words sometimes exchanged? Yes. We aren’t perfect, and we’d never claim to be. The real magic is not keeping misunderstandings from happening entirely — rather, it’s picking up from them, apologizing for them, forgiving each other, and moving on together, stronger as a team. This is only possible because of our mutual respect for each other and our determination to communicate effectively and openly.

Watching each member of our little microcosm fill out their place in our team is like watching a planted seed grow from a mere sprout to a lush plant... and then burst into bloom — each petal full of color, each blossom unique. This is inspirational by itself, but it doesn’t stop there.

Multiple times staffers have gone above and beyond the call of duty, responding to snap emergencies at all hours. Multiple times team members have pitched in to help others with their tasks, finding articles, videos, or photos to use for references or graphics. Multiple times a colleague has shared something difficult they are going through, and the rest of the team rallies around them to support them. Multiple times someone has shared an achievement for something entirely outside the world of ARMY or BTS, and the rest of the team jumps for joy with them.

This happens almost every day. Every day, each member of the team is an inspiration to the others — no matter what we are doing outside, inside ARMY, we are there for each other.

ARMY itself is a team — just look at the intense streaming of “Dynamite” over the past few weeks and the worldwide celebrations at finally, finally, hitting number one on the Hot 100. Could we have managed anything like this alone?

Absolutely not.

We at Borasaek Vision are just a part of a whole, a cross-section of how ARMY works as a larger team, a force of nature fighting for change. Without the rest of ARMY, we couldn’t hope to do what we do. We couldn’t hope to succeed without our honorary member.

You.

As one year has gone by, our small group of followers and readers has grown. Over the course of the next year, we hope to reach even more and expand our team — both to include more staffers and also to include more readers. We’re doing this for ourselves, for BTS, and also for ARMY. We want to give you something to read that does both us and the boys justice. We hope to create something that you can present to others and say, “This is what it means to be ARMY.”

And above all, we want to publish something for you that will make you smile, that will make you think, that will make you proud to be ARMY.

After this week, we’ll be in our next year — we’ll have published our fifth issue, and we’ll be preparing for our sixth. We can’t wait to continue and see what the next year will bring us, and we hope that you will join us in our journey as a two-part team of publishers and ARMY.

Though it is a familiar line, within our chat spaces we say this regularly:

“Teamwork makes the dream work.”

And it does. It does indeed.
