When HYBE LABELS released the music video for BTS’ “Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment'” earlier this year, many in the ARMY fandom felt a subtle yet distinct shift in the BTSxARMY-verse. The song felt like a reflective ode to their past selves, as if savoring all the memories of their past before boxing them up one last time. At the same time, there was a promise of better days yet to come, songs yet to be sung, and memories yet to be made. ARMYs fell in love with the song, the cinematography of the music video, and the many references to BTS’ discography over the years.
Yet three days later when BTS announced during their FESTA dinner that the members would be focusing on releasing solo albums and working more on their solo projects, the shockwaves that this message sent throughout the entertainment industry could be felt at the furthest point on the planet. Amidst laughter and tears, it was evident from the members’ comments that BTS were entering a new chapter in their careers, if not their lives.
Here too in Borasaek Vision (BV) the impact of their words were felt as confusion, tinged with disbelief, sadness, and bewilderment began a takeover of our hearts and minds. All it took was one word — hiatus — to shake up the very core of our collective ARMY consciousness. Not surprising though, as the word ‘hiatus’ in the western music industry often came with connotations of disbandment, so the prospect of BTS choosing this path for themselves was unfathomable. WE KNOW NOW though that ‘hiatus’ was not part of their narrative that day. What they DID say was that they would take a break from group projects to focus more on their solo work, with the hope that the fans would get to know (and love) each of the members more. Shifting the focus from the group to each member would allow them to showcase more of their talents, skills, and charms.
Post-FESTA many ARMY groups and individual fans responded to BTS’ announcement with pledges to continue loving and supporting BTS, and by default, all of the members and their solo projects. In keeping with our organizational statement, “We will walk the borasaek road with BTS — with love and trust, until the end,” this too was our position as Borasaek Vision. However, since our humble beginning in 2019, we had always written our blogs and magazine articles with the understanding that we were OT7. Venturing into a new space that would focus on each of the member’s solo careers as artists was new ground for us and required a little adjusting of mindsets. Eventually, we agreed that blogging would continue as usual with two releases per week, however, our bimonthly magazine issues were put on hold, and have remained so since our last release of Volume 3, Issue 3 in June.
So much has happened since June and despite the initial panic attacks, ARMYs are very comfortable now knowing that BTS have entered the second chapter of their career. J-hope debuted his solo album, Jack in the Box at Chicago’s Lollapalooza, easily setting a record for the most ticket sales, while Jung Kook has featured in two collaborations. “Left and Right” with Charlie Puth and “Bad Decisions” with his three hyungs (older brothers) V, Jimin, and Jin, Benny Blanco, and Snoop Dogg. RM featured with Balming Tiger to release “섹시느낌 - Sexy Nukim” and of course, we see that SUGA may have started the ball rolling in April with Psy’s “That That” where he both produced and featured.
With the timing of this blog comes the added knowledge that the eldest member of BTS, Jin, just recently released his single album “The Astronaut.” The music video debuted on October 28, then Jin performed it live in Argentina the next day at the Coldplay concert. A beautiful song, co-written by Jin and Coldplay, that ARMYs now realize is Jin’s farewell gift as he prepares to enlist in South Korea’s military by the end of this year. Regarding military service, the remaining six members will all follow Jin’s lead over the next two-year period as confirmed by BigHit in October. In fact, 2025 will most likely be the earliest that the seven members will reunite as BTS. While fans were understandably shaken at first by this news, once again there is only love and continued support for the members and relief that finally, this important decision has been announced.
While the world at large may be speculating on BTS’ future, most ARMYs are sincerely happy for the seven BTS members. Yes, they will be missed. Yes, the world may feel a little out of sync as fans adjust to each of the members eventually saying their goodbyes due to their military service commitments. However, we can be certain that BigHit and HYBE have already taken this into consideration and have put contingency plans in place to ensure continuity in the interim.
Again, what does this mean for us here at Borasaek Vision? To be honest, we are still finding our way through all of this. We are a group of international ARMYs who came together simply because of our shared love for BTS and a desire to produce high-quality, insightful content about BTS & ARMY. With BTS embarking on the second chapter of its journey, fans all over the world are reflecting on what this means for them, just as we are, here in our small online niche. Our team members come and go as personal priorities shift and that’s to be expected, such is the nature of life. Yet everyone who has contributed to the growth and development of Borasaek Vision have been amazing individuals, and we’ve felt honored that they chose to share themselves and their talents with us, for however long they were here.
BTS has promised that they’ll keep on coming back for more, that this is not the last time that BTS & ARMY will be together and that their best is surely “Yet to Come.” The road ahead may be uncertain, for many ARMYs, just as it is for us here at Borasaek Vision, but let’s keep walking it together, with love and trust, until the end.
