Because Of You

Dear BTS,

You have been dubbed as artists who have saved countless lives; out of the numerous talented artists around the globe, millions of people chose you. We, ARMYs, look up to you; through your music and beliefs, we were motivated to change. You must have a secret formula to move your ARMY to do extraordinary deeds that we wouldn’t have done on our own.

If each ARMY was asked about what huge influence you have had in their lives, the first answer would surely be ‘Learning to love ourselves’.

Love Yourself.

You have instilled this phrase into our memories. It became the title of your album series, your songs, and your concerts. Through this content, you have stressed the phrase’s importance in various ways for us to slowly understand its true meaning.

We cannot say for sure that we have fully succeeded in loving every part of ourselves; it’s not something that can be achieved with a snap of our fingers, but you are always by our side, and suddenly loving ourselves doesn’t seem like a daunting task as it did before. We never felt alone, as you were also learning to love yourselves just like we were.

You once even asked us to use you to love ourselves, like how you used ARMY to do the same. The messages you conveyed motivated us to take small yet meaningful steps towards self-love—be it through listening to your songs or introspecting after watching you take care of yourselves. Learning how to love ourselves saved our lives, and that is exactly how your music heals people. This journey is long and tough, but we always have each other.

During the UN General Assembly, you said, "We have learned to love ourselves, so now I urge you to 'speak yourself.'” You taught us that no matter who we are, where we’re from, our skin color, and gender identity, we should speak ourselves. We realized that both speaking ourselves and loving ourselves are equally important.

By emphasizing that everyone has a voice, and everyone should use that voice, you set an example. Telling your story through your music speaking up on important societal issues.

We admire you for your grit—another quality you have which makes you unique from other artists. You have the courage to tackle tabooed issues, and to show your authenticity in a world full of pretenders. This quality inspires us to be the same—to be unafraid to speak up for ourselves.

Loving ourselves and speaking ourselves equals changing lives. More than awards and international recognition, your biggest achievement in our eyes is how you influenced a multitude of people to spark change in other’s lives, ARMY or not. Your fandom has impacted a lot of lives, from donating in charities and causes to becoming each other’s mental health support groups. The biggest credit goes to you, as you were the domino effect that spread positivity and hope to people.

We never imagined ourselves showing the dedication, camaraderie, and service we have right now if it weren’t for you. It is your message that pushed us to go beyond what we usually do for others who are in need. You were the reason why ARMY is known as undefeatable, reaching heights we never thought we’d reach; we learned from the best, after all.

Loving ourselves. Speaking ourselves. Changing lives.

Artists who saved countless lives, that is what you truly are. Millions of people from different walks of life chose you for this reason, and we will continue to choose you every single day. Thank you for motivating us to change, for challenging us to do things we never thought we’d be able to do, for giving us a shoulder to cry on and a reason to move forward.

Because of you, we are learning to love ourselves. Because of you, we are speaking ourselves. Because of you, we are creating a positive impact in the world. The seven of you believed in us, in what we can do, and for that, we are truly grateful. On behalf of ARMYs and the Borasaek Vision family, thank you for existing.
