ARMY’S Golden Closet: Art Interpreters

BTS As Artists Through The Years

BTS debuted in 2013 with their song “No More Dream.” Through the years, as they grew older, their music and cinematography grew as well. With their hits in recent years, such as “FAKE LOVE,” “IDOL,” “MIC DROP,” “Life Goes On,” “ Dynamite,” “Butter,” etc., this growth has been even more prominent.

BTS have often spoken about their connection to music and their urge to keep on trying different genres of music to satisfy their creativity. While they were initially introduced as a hip-hop idol group when they put forth their first album 2 Cool 4 Skool, the ripple effect of their hip-hop ventures was seen even in their second album Dark and Wild.

However, as their next albums rolled by, they told a completely different story. They had begun experimenting with their music style, a huge chunk of what can be seen in “I NEED U”— the song that scored them both critical appreciation and a large audience.

While no one can deny BTS’ music has made them relatable, their storytelling and performance isn’t just limited to that. Along with their thought-provoking and comforting lyrics, their team’s efforts to make their storytelling stand out with complex choreographies and meticulous cinematography for their music video have contributed to BTS’ art.

This has also made their art far more complex with layers that need to be peeled to reach the crux of it. Fortunately, there are various ARMY sites and videos that have analyzed their works and made it easier for others to go through each layer.

ARMY And Their Creative Surge

The ARMY fandom could arguably be called the largest fandom. That means there is a large amount of the fandom that is into the creative arts— from writers to artists to designers to cinematographers, to dancers and singers, the fandom houses a large amount of creative talent.

This has been helpful to the fandom through the years as they have created posters, magazine issues, and more to show their gratitude towards BTS.

ARMY And Interpretation Of Art In All Its Forms

Due to the vast nature of BTS’ craft, there is no end of things that can be interpreted or analyzed in more ways than one. While some ARMY chose to do so by using their creativity, some chose to use their field of knowledge to understand and help others better understand their art. ARMYs over the years have interpreted BTS’ lyrics, their writing styles, their music video storylines, their cinematography, etc.

A well-known site built and organized by an ARMY is doolset lyrics. Through the years, this site has helped international fans understand their lyrics and understand the cultural references they use.

Similarly, a channel on Youtube has been updating BTS’ complex storyline related to their HYYH (화양연화 or ‘The Most Beautiful Moment In Life’) era. The ARMY has taken the time to update the storyline every year, with their most detailed update being the one for 2022 and their most-watched one being their 2019 explanation.

Another channel has interpreted each members’ artistic style. Starting with their writing styles, it has been spot on in their view of the members’ styles when it comes to their connection with music. Their video ‘The Writing Styles Of BTS’ goes in-depth on this subject.

Besides these fantastic pages, there have also been other professionals on the internet that have expressed their love and appreciation for BTS and their art and have also associated themselves with the fandom. This includes video editors on youtube who often react to BTS’ music videos and the magnificent quality of their edits, videographers who discuss BTS’ cinematography from their music videos in detail, and many more.

ARMYs have constantly worked to understand BTS and their art forms better. With several ARMY organizations dedicated to doing just that, the fans have been able to gather information that is not only reliable but also easy to access. These organizations and their pages have made it simpler even for those outside of the fandom who just want to explore and enjoy good art.
