After shining a well-deserved light on the many talents of our ARMY fandom over the past three months, Borasaek Vision’s Spring Series has finally reached its final destination. With blogs dedicated to highlighting various social media accounts established by fans around the world, we’ve gained valuable insights into the abundance of knowledge, skills, and talents embodied within ARMY’s Golden Closet. From hardworking translators, event organizers, and art interpreters to those who nurture the wellbeing of the mind and soul through literature, education, and healthy living, the ARMY fandom has it all. It is an eclectic entity by nature, representing all walks of life – unique as individuals and as a collective.
Spring Series was a celebration, and just as BTS has continually “been calling your name in this universe,” we wanted to do a shout-out too, not only to the ARMYs who have been acknowledged in our blogs thus far but to all ARMYs – everywhere! With so many fans, standing out from the crowd when that crowd numbers in the millions isn’t an easy feat, and yet, some have done exactly that.
Vocal Uniqueness
Did you hear the story about the BTS fan who not only entertained an audience of 60k but also trended the hashtag #btsbutimscreamingthelyrics? They broke Twitter Space’s hosting record at that time by literally screaming out the lyrics of BTS songs. How about the one where another fan bocked like a chicken (aka clucked) with their egg-cellent “bak bak” mini online concert, entertaining more than a thousand listeners with egg-straordinary renditions of BTS’ songs? Understandably, both stories were covered by a variety of entertainment outlets (you can read more about them here and here) because these were not activities that the general public were used to.
Considering the two examples above, 2021 certainly was a significant year for the fans considered to be slightly more egg-entric than others. Combined with the impact of prolonged periods of isolation caused by a global pandemic, the long term (BTS) drought ARMYs had been experiencing since the end of 2019 seemed to bring out the entrepreneurial spirit in many fans. Boredom or frustration may have been contributing factors, as well as the desire to promote BTS’ discography in creative ways. Spontaneously brightening up someone’s day in an ear-catching way was a welcomed result for both instances, and for a brief moment in time, a little light-hearted relief was experienced by those who tuned in.
Flower Power
Flowers are a guaranteed way to brighten the day of anyone who may be feeling a little under the weather, undermined, or undervalued in life. Add to that a heartfelt message and a color-coordinated snapshot of the BTS members, and you have The ARMY Flower Shop. Since 2020, this fan-based account has been “delivering flowers and love from ARMY to ARMY.” Simply by completing a Google form, senders can arrange for a virtual bouquet to be tweeted to someone special. With the shop operating six days a week, their service always seems to be in high demand.
Another ‘flower-related’ account known to capture the attention of ARMYs is the Smeraldo Flower Shop. For those who may not know, the smeraldo flower is a specially grown flower from the fictional Bangtan Universe, more commonly referred to as the BU. Naver seems to have been the original home of a series of Smeraldo Flower blogs originating from 2017-2018, with a connection to a Facebook account as well. In 2019 a Twitter account called Smeraldo Books opened up, and we now know that an account called flowersmeraldo has also sprung up on Instagram. Unlike the ARMY Flower Shop, this one is seasonal, actively aligning with BTS’ comeback promotions.
ARMYs are intrigued with this entire storyline and have spent many hours theorizing and pondering the meaning of life, as influenced by the realms of BTS & ARMY. As such, fans can’t help but feel excited when the smeraldo appears, as this is usually accompanied by a mixture of content in the form of images, diary entries, notes, tweets, and posts that all seem to be clues. While everything seems cryptic, fans actually enjoy delving into the potential that this space holds in regards to the Bangtan Universe and BTS. As for the smeraldo flower itself, the storyline surrounding this flower is also unique, inspiring BTS’ song “The Truth Untold.”
STREAMING SENSATION!
Just over a year ago, a humble fan account called @btschartdata achieved something that had never been seen before on Stationhead, a mobile app that “allows anyone to become a streaming radio DJ” and all it took was a simple tweet to get everything started. Rolling Stone India referred to it as “BTS ARMY’s Digital Dominance” while Stationhead’s founder/CEO commented how the ARMY fandom proved that “The Air Belongs to You.”
This event attracted more than 200k listeners, paving the way for more events of a similar nature: both for ARMYs and for other artists and their fans. Listeners who tuned into the #StreamingBUTTER event posted their praise for this event and for the fun they experienced while being part of a massive live listening party. It truly was a celebration of BTS & ARMY! A year later and @btschartdata is still going strong on the airwaves preparing for BTS’ comeback.
Our Spring Series may have reached its conclusion, but the diversity of the ARMY fandom means that there will always be innovative or creative fan bases and accounts ready to share their talents. If you have a little time to spare, we’d like to invite you to take a trip down the Spring Series memory lane with us. You won’t be disappointed!
