It’s almost impossible to not know Park Jimin of BTS nowadays. His beauty has everyone turning their heads twice. His kindness is like the softest comforter during rough days. His voice has angels stop their singing to listen; and his tinkling laugh will brighten any day. He’s known as one of the main dancers and vocalists in the group. But today, we’re going to put aside his singing ability which is, no doubt, one of the most unique voices in Korea, as we’ve talked about his vocals many times in other blogs. In celebration of his birthday, we’re going to look into the main aspect that makes Jimin a work of art.
Born in Geumjeong District in Busan on October 13, 1995, little Park Jimin would never have expected how his life has turned out now. Celebrating his 27th birthday today, Park Jimin has left traces of his hard work in the world. Jimin has said he doesn’t believe in destiny. He questioned the point of trying to do anything if the result will end up the same. He said all the things he has achieved are because he chose to do them and worked hard for them; and work hard he did. Traces of his sweat, tears, passion, and dedication can be found everywhere.
Starting from an early age, Jimin attended a dance academy where he learned the techniques of popping and locking. Before his debut, Jimin attended Busan High School of Art and studied contemporary dance, becoming the top student in the entire modern dance department. Compliments would be the first thing anyone would say about him, especially those who had attended the same school as him – not only did he have incredible dancing ability, but Jimin was also a valedictorian. His passion for dancing wasn’t an excuse for him to ignore the other subjects and take advantage of his dancing skills.
Professional dancers from around the world sing his praises. He has a unique dance flow that no one would be able to replicate. It’s widely known in the dancing world that it’s hard to master dance styles that require different execution. It’s even harder for Jimin as his background in popping, locking, and hip-hop clashes with what is needed as a contemporary dancer. Where popping and locking need sharp edges, contemporary dance needs a wide stretch of the body and fluid movements, like a feather gliding in the air.
Jimin had mentioned how the clashing dance style almost got him kicked out from BTS. It was hard to adjust a contemporary dancer to BTS’ strong, firm movement with sharp edges. Thankfully, Jimin also has a blackbelt in taekwondo and has mastered several other martial arts. It helps him a lot, and it’s safe to say that it has become one of his strengths. One second, he would twirl and slide as graceful as a swan, the next second he would leap several feet from the ground and perform a somersault. Now, it’s hard to imagine BTS dancing without the elegant movement of Park Jimin.
Being trained in various dance styles and martial arts has shaped him into a better person, both personality-wise and appearance-wise. Here and there, we could see him inserting some martial arts-inspired movement that adds flavor to his dancing.
Jimin also has an outstanding visual that has got many artists from all around the world dropping to their knees and trying to immortalize his beauty. Recently, a painting of Jimin by Lee K was displayed in one of the historical landmarks in the world, The Louvre. Lee K participated at The 2022 Focus Art Fair Paris, and his Jimin painting was even displayed in the event promotional picture.

Lee K is a familiar name among the ARMY, as he has painted many portraits of Jimin, and even had an Instagram story highlight titled “Muse” where he posted pictures of his Jimin paintings. When asked, Lee K explained that Jimin’s elegant face was what drew him in. According to him, Jimin has a tip-pointed nose, the face line of a lady's face with monolids and thick lips, and even though the line of his face is distinctly Asian, his neck down is thick and angular.
But, Lee K is not the only artist who chooses Jimin as their muse. Domee Shi, the director of “Turning Red” answered the fans’ suspicions as one of the animation’s characters appears to look like a copy of Jimin. She admitted how Tae Young, one of the characters, was inspired by BTS – more specifically, Jimin. Plenty of artists have also shown their works of Jimin, from oil and water on canvas, dance inspired by him, singers looking up his vocal technique, and the most recent event, several producers lining up to work on a song with him.
Park Jimin is truly a work of art.
