ARMY 101: The BTS and ARMY Inside Jokes Manual

BTS members treat each other more than bandmates - they consider themselves brothers. Not only that, but ARMYs have found a family within in BTS and fellow ARMY. The unbreakable bonds we have formed can translate into various things that make our fandom wonderful chaos, and one of these are our inside jokes! Let’s recall some of the inside jokes that BTS and ARMY have shared!

Ayo Hitman Bang introduces Big Hit: The Second Audition

Bang Sihyuk introduced Big Hit’s second audition through a YouTube video. The phrase “Ayo Hitman Bang introduces Big Hit: The Second Audition. Rap, dance noraero sangdebangi guiseoneul japhae” became very iconic because of Bang Sihyuk’s way of speaking that the BTS members never fail to imitate every chance they can get.

Born in Busan first

Jimin and Jungkook are both from the province of Busan. Since Jimin is older than Jungkook, he always jokes that Jungkook imitated him by being born in the same place.

BTS’ Stan Accounts

ARMY has this goofy yet probable (who knows?) theory that the BTS members have their own stan Twitter accounts. During one V Live, Jin and Jungkook shared a similar pose as the circulating “We Irritating” meme on stan Twitter. Coincidence? We think not!

Another meme that BTS - specifically Jungkook - was aware of is the “Salt Bae” meme. Jungkook has imitated this meme in a Run episode. Definitely not a coincidence! Should we be worried that one of our mutuals is actually a BTS member?

Calm Down, My Daughter

J-Hope played the role of the mother of BTS' fangirl RM in the BTS 3rd Muster: House of ARMY. During the skit, RM the fangirl stormed into the living room after finding out that J-Hope joined the BTS fan club, J-Hope replied: “calm down, my daughter” in a high-sounding speech - which became an inside joke for the following years.

International Kpop Sensation Sunshine Rainbow Traditional Transfer USB Hub Shrimp BTS

Did you know that BTS has a new name since 2017? They are also known as International Kpop Sensation Sunshine Rainbow Traditional Transfer USB Hub Shrimp BTS. This long name was coined during their Bon Voyage visit to Hawaii when they felt thrilled after a local recognized them. SUGA commented that they are “International Kpop” then RM added “Sensation Sunshine BTS.”

“International Kpop Sensation Sunshine BTS” began to grow in the succeeding Bon Voyage episodes. Jungkook heard about the name and added the word “Rainbow.” Afterward, Jin became aware of the name and suggested to add “Traditional” to show their Korean roots. SUGA then added “Transfer USB Hub” to show that they are culturally connecting to other parts of the world.

Their new name was then “International Kpop Sensation Sunshine Rainbow Traditional Transfer USB Hub BTS.” Jin wanted to add finishing touches so he decided to add “Shrimp” because they were inspired by the shrimp dishes of Hawaii. “International Kpop Sensation Sunshine Rainbow Traditional Transfer USB Hub Shrimp BTS” is a good name, don’t you think?

Jjang Jjang Man Boong Boong

Jjang jjang man is a slang used by young Koreans which literally translates to “best best man.” Boong boong, on the other hand, is an onomatopoeia. SUGA included “jjang jjang man boong boong” in their Naver Starcast’s performance of I Need U when fans added lines to the raps of the members.

Lajimolala Carbonara

BTS played the whisper challenge on one of their RUN BTS episodes, wherein each member has to relay a word while wearing headphones. Jimin was bad at this game and relayed the word “Lajimolala” to Jin. Luckily for their team, Jin guessed the given word “Carbonara” correctly.

Sipping Tae

V found a way to become a popular meme during their appearance in The Ellen Show - only by drinking from his mug! The viewers immediately caught his low-key sassy look as he sipped from his mug.

Stob It

In one the BTS Lives, Jin and Jimin were shooting an Eat Jin episode with candy, but then Jungkook shows up and joins the episode. Jimin and Jungkook’s noisiness made Jin yell “Hey, stob it!” which quickly turned into a meme among the ARMY.

Strong Power Thank You

RM has often interpreted the answers of BTS members during English interviews that he has unofficially become their translator. During their interview in THE SHOW, Taehyung thanked the fans for giving him strength. Instead of saying the original translation, RM just said the phrase “strong power thank you” and everyone burst into laughter.
