BTS, also known as Bangtan Sonyeondan, is a South Korean boy band who debuted in 2013 under BigHit Entertainment. They have attained so many achievements since then. One of them is that they are the first Korean artists who have managed to occupy the number 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Of course, behind their success there are so many great fans, right? ARMYs are known for their incredible strength. We are known as a fierce, strong, and loyal fandom. We, ARMYs, are standing beside them and standing up for them.
Here, in this blog, we will continue the series where we share stories by ARMYs from different countries. We made this series because we believe that ARMYs have their unique stories that need to be heard.
Want to know what their stories look like? Let’s get started!
First, there is Iis, from Indonesia who wants to share her story with us.
“I got to know BTS when I was in 8th grade, through “Dope” MV. When I watched it, I immediately fell for Jin. The easiest member that I can remember well was Namjoon, and the hardest for me to identify were Suga and J-Hope. They were both like twins in my eyes.
The song is really cool! I can’t stop listening to the song. The dance is also really cool! I can’t control my body, I always dance when the song is playing, even though I dance at random, hehe :D.
I watched Bon Voyage and BTS In The SOOP. I really like how they take care of each other, and how they divide the tasks when doing housework. I hope that I can find friends like them who truly love each other like family. I was so amazed when they suddenly made the soundtrack for BTS In The SOOP. It proves that they are really that great! They’ve inspired me and made me laugh.
When I listen to their songs, I like to search for the lyric translations. Their songs are very very inspiring. For example, in the song titled “Mikrokosmos,” the song has the meaning that every person is precious:
These lyrics mean that “We will shine in our own way.” It made me realize that life is not a race, so it’s okay if you still don’t know what you want in this life. Just keep on living, and wait for the time.
I want to thank them for making my life more colorful, making me love myself more. I don't know what else to say, but I love them so much."
Next, in the second story, We have Skylar, from the USA who also wants to share their journey with us.
“My friend is Korean American, and we were learning Korean together. I was also studying film and watching a lot of Korean dramas. One day BTS came across my YouTube, the day of “Dynamite” release, and I spent the next week of quarantine filling myself in on the things that I missed.
I was very lost and confused, I wasn't sure of my own identity. BTS helped me find that place, and reckon with my identity. After I came out as Non Binary in 2021, and started therapy, I really began to love myself. It's helped me grow and chase my dreams of being in the film industry instead of the career path I was previously on, which was only to appease my parents.
I joined a Discord group and made friends all over the world. I have some coming to visit soon. Others I flew to NYC to see on Jimin's birthday, and another I drove to Tennessee to visit for my friend's graduation.
They've brought me joy like nothing else had, and even brought me to this writing job at Borasek Vision, that I adore with my whole person, and became a platform I can be creative with. ❤ ”
And in our third story, we have Endang from Indonesia who also has her interesting story for us to hear.
“BTS sang “Airplane pt. 2” at an event, and at that moment I decided to sit down and just watch them till the event finished. Their performance for that song was definitely something that I'll never forget easily. I love their small dance, each one of them. They showed their emotions on the stage during their speech in MAMA 2018, they told their fans what their feelings are, their true feelings. Since then, I told myself to never leave them and walk along with them, and with ARMYs from around the world.
BTS is always there, trying to support their fans as much as they can, that's one of the many reasons I love them. They never stop telling ARMYs that everything will be alright, if today is not going well, then it's just not a good day, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good life. They always try to tell us, in this world there are 7 guys in South Korea who always believe in us – that we can make it to the top someday and to just take baby steps if it's hard.
BTS will always be BTS after all, they will always make you laugh whenever and wherever. That bright side of them is also appealing to see.
In conclusion, BTS is a complete package of everything and once you JIM IN you can't JIM OUT!”
Our last story to be shared in this blog for the month, came from an ARMY who would like to remain Anonymous.
“Before I knew BTS – to be honest I didn't even know how to love myself. What is loving myself? I never heard those words before. My life was full of insecurities, I was scared, but BTS changed my life. I became a better person, a person who loves herself. I care about myself, I learn about and accept myself. My past, my bad side, every side of myself. BTS has become part of my life. I am really grateful to know BTS.”
After reading some of the stories above, we know that BTS greatly affects ARMYs’ lives. They are very influential in so many ways. They bring happiness to us, change the meaning of togetherness, and much more.
