ARMYs are an incredibly diverse group, and many join the fandom in different moments; however, in spite of our differences, there will always be certain things we have in common. Aside from our love for BTS, there are many little habits that ARMYs share. Let’s take a look at ten things BTS ARMYs do, either as individuals or as a collective.
The Funny
1 - One of the first things an ARMY learns to do is to keep an eye on BTS’s social media accounts at 12:00 AM (KST). Big Hit is well known for dropping new content at this time without any notice, so it’s only natural that we would want to see it as soon as it happens. However, if you do this every day, chances are you’ll start feeling like a clown whenever you wait in vain. We might be wrong most days, but it is always worth it when the clock hits 12, and there’s suddenly something like “Blue Side” full version on the timeline, as it happened just a few days ago.
2 - It might be a bit difficult to explain to outsiders, but ARMYs get whiplash from the BTS members’ duality. They can go from sweet and adorable to extremely cool and suave in a second, and it can be a lot for an ARMY to process. Just watch “Run! BTS” episode 131 and look at Jimin before and after the pool. You’ll get exactly what this means.
3 - We cannot not mention the food preference debates and never-ending references to the infamous mint chocolate flavor war. “Run! BTS” Episode 65 started it, but ARMYs never let it go. We will continue to argue for or against mint chocolate forever. Recently, however, raisins in bread have been added to the mix as well. (For the record, both are great.)
4 - As you might’ve heard, there are a lot of ARMYs — at least 33.5 million follow BTS on Twitter. Now imagine that a significant number of them want to see the same website at the same time to check an award nomination, a new video, or a birthday live stream. It’s not intentional, but breaking websites is certainly something ARMYs have done more than a handful of times. Though, it isn’t really our fault that the sites are not built for our level of enthusiasm, is it?
The Heartwarming
5 - Some might argue that excited screaming isn’t heartwarming, but unapologetic joy is a beautiful thing. There’s something magical about getting an unexpected BTS live stream, an exciting announcement, or even seeing pictures of their pets and being so happy that you can’t contain yourself. Collective joy is an experience ARMYs share together. Personally, I’ve never heard louder or happier screams as the first time Yeontan showed up on the big screen.
6 - ARMYs are pretty good at charting BTS’s music, and we’ve developed a habit of doing it to communicate messages or to deal with certain situations. Be it a celebration of a big accomplishment or frustration that needs to be channeled into something productive, there’s always a good reason. You might not see how this is heartwarming, but if you were around in 2018 and saw “Two! Three! (Still wishing there will be more good days)” going up in the charts, you know it really can be.
7 - Another cool thing we do pretty often is communicating through Twitter’s trending topics. While sometimes it is intentional, many other times it’s just a matter of a lot of people being excited about the same thing at once. Some might remember ‘HE’S MAKING BRACELETS’ when J-Hope was doing exactly that on VLive, and the fan-favorite ‘BTS PAVED THE WAY,’ whenever they reach another milestone. And longtime ARMYs will know the sweet moments when the fandom gets “HAVE A SAFE FLIGHT” trending whenever BTS board their plane to go on tour overseas.
8 - We are also really sentimental. There are a few tweets from BTS’s early years that are always bound to come back when something amazing happens. The next time they hit a #1, look out for “Teamwork makes the dream work” or “I bet you these are just appetizers. Soon we will show you guys the real things.” I assure you they’ll be somewhere on your timeline.
The Amazing
9 - Finally, there are some things that ARMYs do that can make the world a tiny little bit better. Selling out products BTS members enjoy or have been seen using doesn’t sound that helpful, but it can be! In his recent live stream, Jungkook mentioned that he is grateful that small businesses have received support thanks to ARMYs buying products he’s worn.
10 - The last, and most amazing, thing on this list that ARMYs do is using their numbers and influence for good — from creating fanbases to help each other to helping people in need all around the world, like what One In An ARMY does every month. We aren’t just organized, we know we can do great things together, and we make those things happen!
These are just a few of the many things BTS ARMYs do, but even this shortlist shows how being part of this fandom can be fun, sweet, and powerful enough to create a positive impact in the world, and in individual ARMY's lives all at the same time.
