Therapy is Free With BTS

Updated: Mar 4, 2022

March 1st of every year, people celebrate. The purpose of the day is to celebrate the healing powers of music. The special day was launched by the World Federation of Music Therapy in 2016. But the father of music therapy is Everett Thayer Gaston. Gaston had his own opinions about music therapy, which are: music is a powerful form of nonverbal communication that still has strength and meaning despite being wordless, it can influence moods and emotions, and musical experiences can be more intimate because it gives the listeners and performers freedom to show their own responses about the musical experience.

There are several ways to celebrate this special occasion, such as thanking a music therapist. It does not mean you cannot show your gratitude to them on other days but on this special day, you can show them how much their music means to you. You can play your favorite music that brings joy or peace in life, you can also go to places like orphanages or local hospitals to share your beautiful work with other people. Donating is another way to celebrate the day, you can ask the association by asking how you can support their needs or you can go to efforts like Bring The Joy, a US-based program that provides music and art therapy for seriously ill children. You can always find a way to celebrate the beautiful day with people that you love.

Music therapy heals millions of people every year and this number is increasing. The therapy is for everyone no matter their age. Everyone can benefit from music therapy even if you do not have a beautiful voice or skill with any musical instruments. Music therapy helps improve mental health and addiction as well. Furthermore, it can also heal physical problems such as lowering blood pressure, reducing heart rate, and relaxing muscle tension.

World music therapy day is another important day because it brings people and music together, whether you are a performer or an audience member. Music indeed heals the world, it affects our feelings, moods, and actions. Music therapy is still underrated and underappreciated these days, so celebrating it also brings awareness of it.

BTS might not be professional music therapists but they are indeed therapy for us. Their music heals us and saves ARMYs around the world by lifting our moods, sharing our woes, and teaching us self-love. They have a wide variety of music to choose from, music that would suit any mood or situation and mental health awareness is important to them. As a way of celebrating BTS and a belated acknowledgment of World Music Therapy Day, we’ve highlighted seven songs to help you get through your day, so grab your phone and put these songs in your playlist (if you don’t already have them).

“Tomorrow” from the Skool Luv Affair album is a good song for you if you feel like you are afraid of what tomorrow will bring. The song expresses the hardships of today’s younger generation:

Because the dawn right before the sun rises is the darkest

Even in the far future, never forget the you of right now.

Their BE album, “Blue and Grey”, written by V, talks about anxiety and depression. He described the burnout that comes with work pressures and high expectations towards him and the band. This song shares the feeling of being melancholic in a world that is full of happiness.

Oh, this ground feels so heavier

I am singing by myself

I just wanna be happier.

Everyone will have their own bad days and it is still acceptable. Life is not always about laughing and smiling, we might cry sometimes but it is okay. We are still okay as long as we keep going, at least that is what RM tried to tell us through his “Moonchild” song.

Moonchild, don’t cry

When the moon rises, it’s your time.

Yeah all this pain and all these sorrows

That’s our destiny, see?

You and my life was like this

We gotta dance in the rain, dance in the pain

Jungkook created a magic place for us through this beautiful song, “Magic Shop.” He wanted to say that life can be lived peacefully if we learn how to cope with negative feelings and still try to love ourselves. We might take some time to rest in our "magic shop" but we should always come stronger after that.

On days I hate being myself,

Days I want to disappear forever.

Let’s make a door in your heart.

Open the door and this place will await,

You can believe in this magic shop that will comfort you.

“00:00 (Zero O’Clock)” is another song that gives us comfort when depression hits us. The song has a meaning that things can turn around and even if we have a tough day it has finished at the stroke of the clock at midnight and a brand new day will come to greet us.

But this day will be over

When the minute and second hands overlap

The world holds its breath for a little while

Zero o’clock

To top it off, “Epiphany'' is a good song for us to learn about how to be able to love ourselves and accept who we are. We always try our best to love other people but we never really pay attention to how to love ourselves. At the end of the day, we should prioritize ourselves first and we need to love ourselves more.

I'm the one I should love in this world

so I love me

Last but not least, we should add “Answer: Love Myself” to our playlist because no matter how hard it is to accept ourselves, we all have the right to love and be loved. It might be hard but we have to start to love ourselves, start from a little thing at a time because you are beautiful and you matter.

You've shown me I have reasons

I should love myself

I'm learning how to love myself

Some days can be more difficult than others, but just like our queen “Spring Day” said,
