There are many kinds of projects that have been made by ARMY to celebrate the Birthdays of BTS members all over the world. Not limited to ARMY, everyone is free to join in the activities and celebrate them together every year. This time, there is a special project for Suga’s birthday on March 9th, 2022. However, before jumping to it, we already chose some events that stood out above the rest. Here we go then!
Last year, Baidu Suga Bar, Suga’s China Fanbase, made a Hot Air Balloon Support at Seoul Marina Club and Yacht which was the largest hot air balloon support for a Korean celebrity! It was a big effort for them to create a special event for celebrating Suga’s birthday. For other projects, there are cafe events which are common in South Korea to celebrate BTS members’ birthdays (you can read about some of them in our last blog for j-hope’s birthday). This year, there is once again a special project from ARMY. They are going to make a streaming party project through Spotify and collect 500 screenshots as their project goal! How cool is that?
If you’re keen to take part in a birthday project dedicated to a particular BTS member but aren’t sure where to go, @OneInAnARMY is a great place to start. For example, just a quick scroll through their Twitter account highlights several projects currently being hosted in different parts of the world to commemorate Suga’s birthday. Also, let’s not forget our SOPE sub-unit (Suga and j-hope) who have inspired birthday projects that often begin in time for j-hope’s birthday and then continue on to Suga’s birthday month.
One project that we’d like to share is currently being hosted by Purples Whales Dz 🇩🇿💜, an Algerian project fan account that is donating meals in order to feed the homeless. This project was inspired by Suga when he gifted Korean beef to 39 orphanages in 2018, as a way of giving back for his birthday. Funnily enough, this idea behind Suga’s birthday gift first came about at a 2014 BTS fan signing event when Suga promised that one day when he had made lots of money, he would buy ARMYs a meal to show his gratitude for their continued love and support. Later, in 2015, Suga predicted that on 9th March 2018, he would carry out this promise. Although ARMYs weren’t the recipients themselves, he made his gift to the orphanages under the name of ARMY.
From Suga’s act of kindness, other fan-led projects in celebration of Suga’s birthday have taken place every year, often with a similar intent. Our final highlight comes from Turkey where a birthday donation campaign is currently underway. Donations can be made to darussafaka.org/en/donation, an organization that “provides financial support to orphan students in Turkey, covering their educational expenses and needs.” While we have only shared a few examples, there are many more. With the benefits of modern technology now, it is possible for ARMYs to show their support no matter where they live in the world.
