One of the things BTS is known for ― besides their heart-touching music, amazing fandom, and achievements ― is their concerts. Their impeccable stage design and setlist create extraordinary fan experiences beyond words. Ever since the pandemic hit, however, BTS has had to turn to online concerts. Permission To Dance: On Stage, Online Concert was the first branch of the PTD On Stage Concert, with PTD On Stage: LA being the second.
For the first time, the online concert had soundcheck streaming, which allowed ARMYs to enjoy BTS even before the concert began! While ARMYs were excited for the concert, HYBE released an announcement that stated that V had injured his leg, and as a result, V took part in the performance while seated and without choreography. As soon as the announcement was released, all the ARMYs sent good wishes to V for a quick and healthy recovery. Even though V was seated during the concert, it didn’t make it any less special. Energy and enthusiasm were high, and BTS were ready to make ARMYs get up and dance from even within their own homes.
The first stop of the concert was soundcheck! During soundcheck, BTS performed “Life Goes On,” “Disease,” and “Telepathy.” All the members appeared in comfortable outfits for soundcheck and had fun while performing the songs and adjusting their mics. New hair colors and, as always, the amazing personal style of the members was seen during the soundcheck! BTS, as well as ARMYs, enjoyed the experience.
After the soundcheck, it was finally the most awaited time: the concert! BTS kicked off the concert with the powerful performance of “ON.” Even being oceans apart, ARMYs could still feel the energy of the group and their performance. At the same time, all the songs were performed as a group, instead of solo, making it extra special for ARMYs.
Let's talk a bit about the setlist.
As always, BTS showed us a new version of their old self. BTS performed 24 songs, all as a group. The setlist covered all the hit songs of BTS over the span of their career ― from “DOPE” to “Permission To Dance.” BTS took ARMYs on a journey through the different eras of their discography. BTS not only performed some of their most beloved songs but also performed new remixed versions of them. One of the amazing additions to this concert was the live band. BTS performed “Boy With Luv” and “Dynamite” with a live band, making for a new and refreshing tone. Altogether, it was a recap of BTS’ journey packed into one concert.
Concert endings are always the most emotional because it is always hard to say goodbye to the members and the cherished time spent with them. This concert was no different; BTS performed “EPILOGUE: Young Forever” and “Spring Day” during the encore, two songs very close to BTS and ARMY’s hearts.
In the last two years, even after achieving all the success, there was one important missing piece in BTS’ life: performing in front of ARMYs. Although ARMY on AIR during the Sowoozoo was a step closer to BTS being able to see ARMYs while performing, it was still not quite the same. The members also remarked that knowing they would see ARMYs soon made them hopeful. The last song that BTS performed for this concert was “Permission To Dance,” making sure everyone logged out of the concert with a smile.
Even though the energy of the concert was high, it was still an online concert with no ARMYs insight. BTS has tried their very best to keep a positive outlook towards the pandemic; they have also continuously hoped for a reunion with ARMY.
As mentioned in our ARMY: Waiting for Spring Day blog, “Spring day will come, and ARMY will wait for BTS no matter how long it takes.” We can already see the spring day, just a few days to go till BTS once again will burn the stage and perform in front of thousands of ARMYs ― after almost two years. The reunion is something that both BTS and ARMYs have looked forward to, and will surely be a night none of us will ever forget.
