Going Back to the Soop

It is that time of year, “BTS In the SOOP” is returning for a second season. And if the first episode is anything to go by, then this will be another action-packed healing experience for both BTS and ARMY. ARMY will witness BTS unwind through a number of activities in the thick of the forest while spending time with one another.

“BTS In the SOOP Season 2” has been filmed at a special location, which has been constructed especially for BTS in the middle of the forest. The construction took about a year or so, and the planning must have begun after the massive success of “In the SOOP Season 1.” A whole mansion with 37 rooms, a swimming pool, a basketball court, a gym, along with other facilities. It has been constructed at an undisclosed location where BTS could unwind, away from the eyes of the public.

Before the world was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, BTS would film a season of “Bon Voyage” every year, during which they would explore different countries and take part in various activities together. But with the pandemic raging on, there was no way they could film a season of “Bon Voyage” in 2020. Instead, they came up with the idea of “In the SOOP,” a televised program in which BTS showed their relaxed side as they unwind in the countryside.

There are certain shows that instill a sense of calm and happiness in the audience. The human race was at a loss when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world in early 2020. One fine day in spring, the world became confined to the four walls of their homes. Schools were shut, campuses sent back students to their hometowns, offices were closed, transportation was halted, and all signs of normalcy were wiped out. We entered a world where stepping out of the house was equal to entering a battlefield with the Coronavirus. The biggest challenge was the anxiety that clouded our lives - that constant fear of contracting the virus, the constant fear of death, the constant fear of losing someone dear. At a time when there was an absence of hope, ARMY and BTS were both reeling under the negative effects of the pandemic. The worst aspect of the situation was that there was no light at the end of the tunnel. No one knew when this pandemic would be over, if it would be over, and if we would be there when it was over.

Amid the anxiety and gloom that had shrouded the world, little glimmers of hope meant everything. BTS are, at the end of the day, only humans, made of the same material as the rest of us. After the tours were canceled, which resulted in them not being able to perform Map of the Soul: 7 live in front of ARMY, BTS were also going through a hard time coping with the “new normal.” “In the SOOP” was a place where they could heal themselves, relax, nurture their hobbies, and try whatever they wanted to, but usually couldn’t, because of their busy schedules. Watching BTS play around with each other, cooking food together, or baring their hearts out over fried chicken was healing in itself. “In the SOOP” was like a reminder to everyone to not lose hope, to carry on, and to keep living another day.

As an ARMY, the first season of the program was refreshing and healing and felt like a letter to oneself to prioritize happiness and dedicate time for oneself. Whether it was Suga’s constant love for his work and expressing himself through his music, or RM bringing along his bonsai for a trip, or Jin’s love for fishing, “In the SOOP” was all about self-love and healing. It was fun to watch as well. From Jimin making an impromptu song about J-Hope waking him up against his wishes after he had spent the previous day playing games, to V and J-Hope playing around with a water hose in the yard to Jin and Jungkook being their goofy selves.

Season 2 starts from where we left off in Season 1. The season starts to the tune of the “In the SOOP” theme song that BTS composed last season. BTS returns to the forest, but this time at night and with Jungkook’s new dog, Jeon Bam, in tow - probably the biggest surprise of the season. The production crew tried to fulfill all of the members’ wishes by equipping the mansion with all the requested items. BTS returns to the kitchen, and “What should we eat?” is still a difficult question for them, but this time around, the food items are surely luxurious. The inclusion of the gym and the swimming pool has hyped up ARMY the most as we will get a lot of footage of BTS working out. The first episode also gave us a glimpse of Bam’s adorable relationship with the members. Hence, a lot of fun and cute moments await ARMY every Friday. And we do have a wish - please let Kim Seokjin catch at least one fish.
