Challenge: The 3Bs of Creativity

Updated: May 18, 2021

The world moves forward faster than we’d like, demanding new ideas, innovations, and breakthroughs almost every day. We need the contribution of creative individuals for fulfilling the world’s needs. Unfortunately, the need for innovation is not proportional to the freedom of thinking and work, as well as of creativity, due to the many restrictions and rules. Not everyone can force themselves to be creative all the time, and meanwhile, there are many suffocating responsibilities that are demanding to be completed.

In conclusion: we need some tricks to trigger our creativity.

On an exclusive interview posted on BANGTANTV called “BTS BE-hind Story Interview,” Jimin asked RM what was his go-to thing when he got stuck during a creative process. RM then mentioned a phrase that he has been keeping on his mind for a long time: “The 3Bs - Bed, Bath, and Bus.”

This method has become his secret to awakening his inner creativity. It might seem like a cool trick that works only for him, but did you know that this method really does work? Turns out that the “3Bs” is a legitimate method that can help anyone fish for some ideas and inspiration.

Have you ever laid in bed with scenarios of “what ifs,” “maybes,” or “should haves” running in your mind? Have you ever taken a shower or a bath and randomly got this super cool idea or a solution to your problems? Have you ever had this sudden storyline while pretending you were in some kind of music video or a movie when you were in moving vehicles or taking a walk?

Bed, bath, and bus (moving vehicles or taking a walk) are where people often get most of their inspiration. Here in this blog, Borasaek Vision will do a little challenge. We’re going to ask you to do this challenge together about these 3Bs. Are you up to it? Should we check out the challenge first?

Let’s check it out together!

BUS

When we feel stuck, let’s move from where we are in the moment, get out and take a walk or hop on some random bus downtown. We can also take our own vehicle, like a car or a bicycle, and roam around, looking for new places. Let’s free our mind of everything, enjoy the view; let’s tune in into our surroundings, and let our thoughts do their job of sorting themselves out.

Many of us have spent hours, days, and enormous energy thinking about a problem, looking for some answer, trying to get some inspiration, only to have it arrive out of the blue when we let our mind wander.

So, let’s take this opportunity to give our brains time to head in the opposite direction of our problems and see what happens, or in RM’s words, “spread out the net of thoughts.”

BATH

When we get home, let’s take a nice and long shower or a bath, use our favorite shampoo, soap, or bath bomb. Let our minds free from any cumbersome thoughts and spread those new nets of thoughts again.

This one step perhaps was inspired by the famous story of Archimedes, the greatest scientist this world has ever seen. He was asked to determine the amount of gold of his King’s crown. When he stepped into the bathtub and caused it to overflow, an idea struck him, as he found out how an object (his body) submerged in a liquid replaces the same volume of water as its own.

BED

After the relaxing bath or shower, let’s wear our comfiest clothes and go to bed early. Turn off the light but don’t sleep yet. Just let our body rest, let loose all our stiff muscles and bones, and preferably, don’t use our phone. Just let the mind wander, recount our days, what we’re grateful for that day, feel those nostalgic feelings when we remember our time at school a few years ago, or when we had a nice family trip to that one place.

The key to this challenge is to let our minds wander around, because, in many cases, great things and solutions appear when we are no longer actively working on the problem.

It doesn’t always work out, as every individual has their unique way of brainstorming and getting ideas, but it’s also worth a try. Don’t be disappointed when it doesn’t work out; instead, thank yourself for freeing your brain from thoughts and problems and giving it a break.

What do you think? Are you up for this challenge?
