While celebrating the beginning of chapter 2, it’s also the perfect time to look back at how things were in chapter 1. But it’s not the Bangtan Universe, their albums, or any official content that they’ve given us. It’s the side stories — where the BTS members put aside their stage personas and interacted with us as friends. Here are some of the side stories of chapter 1 that we cherish.
SUGA’S SIGHT
Before Golden Closet Photo, Vante, and Hope Film, there was "슈가의 시선" or “SUGA’s Sight” by SUGA. It’s a well-known fact that SUGA used to major in photography, before switching to Entertainment and Broadcasting at Global Cyber University with all of the members besides Jin.

He usually posted this “SUGA’s Sight” on BANGTAN BLOG back in their earlier debut era. A few days before the blog’s release, he would post some “spoilers” on their Twitter account. Not only taking pictures of his band members, but he also liked to capture things around him. It came in handy back then, as the media did not yet cover their behind-the-scenes activities. Fans would also say that “SUGA’s Sight” is the best BTS fansite content.
KIM DAILY
Kim Daily or "김데일리" is a hashtag made by RM back in 2015 where he would post a picture of himself from his day. This has also become RM’s opportunity to show off his fashion style that is always matched aesthetically with the background and the place he was in. The latest Kim Daily was posted on June 10, 2018, with a special appearance of Monnie, RM’s dog. But now that RM has got an Instagram account, he’s been posting about his daily life there. It’s safe to say that it’s the new Kim Daily, just without the hashtag.
EAT JIN
Eat Jin started as Jin’s personal blog on BANGTAN BLOG called “Jin’s Cooking Diary.” Like the usual cooking blog, Jin would post various Korean dishes recipes he tried, along with the pictures of each step and the final product. Though the level of unseriousness in these blogs was hilarious, the steps actually worked, and the end product always looked great and yummy. Sometimes, the other members would make an appearance, either helping him with - or distracting him from - the cooking.
As they were getting bigger and busier, Jin migrated to YouTube and started to post videos of him eating various foods under the name “Eat Jin” in October 2015. These videos can be found on EAT JIN playlist on BANGTANTV. He also started the “Eat Jin” live broadcast on Vlive, and the latest live broadcast was on July 10, 2020.
HOPE ON THE STREET
Dancing is in j-hope’s blood. Before starting Hope on the Street, j-hope posted several blog reviews of dancing on BANGTAN BLOG. Then, in August 2015, j-hope released his dancing show under the name Hope on the Street on their YouTube channel, BANGTANTV. He also would do a surprise live broadcast of Hope on the Street and invited some of the members. As time passed, this content moved to their Twitter account instead, with the latest Hope on the Street being back on Vlive on July 26, 2021.
HWAGAE MARKET
Hwagae Market is the famous live broadcast by the SOPE duo, a.k.a SUGA and j-hope. There’s no specific theme for this broadcast’; it’s just the duo doing whatever they want and talking with the fans. But the name of this broadcast isn’t just some random picture by both of them.
Hwagae Market is a countryside marketplace in South Korea, located between the two provinces of j-hope and SUGA’s hometown: Gwangju in Jeolla province and Daegu in Gyeongsang province. It’s a well-known fact in the K-pop community that people from Gwangju and Daegu traditionally don’t get along and don’t like each other because of historical, political, and character issues; though this mindset has gradually decreased over generations. At the Hwagae Market specifically, they would leave their differences at the entrance.
Those are the reasons why the duo would open the “market” doors and close them at the end of the video. This market means a lot for both of them as it’s the place where their people get along and have a great time.
Those are some of the side stories from chapter 1. Of course, it’s not all of them. There are many other side stories during chapter 1 of BTS’ journey that we could look back on, and hopefully, some of these stories also make another appearance during chapter 2. Or perhaps we’ll be rewarded with new ones? Who knows? Let’s walk together with BTS and find out.
