A Day as BTS Management Team

For the past few years, ARMYs have been curious about how it feels to be the staff and management team for the biggest artists in the world. Words from BTS staff or ex-staff spread rapidly through the internet. People have said how pleasant and fun it is—despite the jam-packed schedule and the demanding job—to work alongside this hard-working septet. Not only because of how hard-working and fun, but also how humble, respectful, and thoughtful they are.

Getting the opportunity to be BTS’ management team for a day, Lee Hyun, a BigHit Music soloist, shared his activity on his YouTube channel. What is it that he has to do as part of BTS’ management team?

First things first, he had to pick them up from their place and drive them towards the location. Right after they arrived at the set, BTS would go straight to the waiting room while Lee Hyun and the management team go over the schedule for the day. It’s also important for them to check on the group’s well-being. Lee Hyun was seen tending to them with water bottles and small talks to hype the atmosphere while keeping them on time as per the schedule.

Sometimes, the management team would help the stylists clip the boys’ mics on. They would have to go back and forth between the team and other staff, noting how long the set preparation would take. Next, when the event is starting—which in this video is an interview—Lee Hyun, as the management team member, also monitors what they are saying alongside the sound crew.

Moving on, now we got to see the preparation for a virtual performance. Heading to the next location, they left right away after the interview. When the Memories DVDs and Concert DVDs show us the BTS perspective of a performance’s preparation, now we got to see it from the crew’s perspective.

Safety first, safety second, coolness third. Alongside the Security Team’s leader, Lee Hyun made sure all the equipment works as it should, all the props are in their places, checking the emergency routes, and overall making sure the building is safe without intruders and unnecessary interruption.

Lastly, checking the cue sheet and timetable for the day, as the location has been built beforehand, all left to do is a soundcheck and camera blocking, right after BTS is done with their make-up. Again, during this time, Lee Hyun helped the members put on their mics while standing by with water bottles.

BTS recorded both “Butter” and “Dynamite” for the SiriusXM performance, both of which Lee Hyun had to record on the management’s phone for BTS to review later. It’s a simple but exhausting time, as Lee Hyun has to hold the phone steady in front of the screen.

When asked about his experience as part of the management team, Lee Hyun had to admit it was physically draining, though he didn’t do all the job desk work of a management team. Through this, we could also take a peek at how it feels working with BTS, how the environment is, and how many people work with them. Just for two recorded performances, at least twenty people were seen working back and forth, making sure everything is perfect or at least close to perfection.

Of course, what’s shown in the video didn’t cover the entire job of the BTS’ crew, but we can use this opportunity to, again, appreciate the hard work of the people involved behind the scenes.

HYUNIE COMBO TV

As the digital world is now dominated by Gen Z, Lee Hyun has finally opened his own YouTube channel called Hyunie Combo TV. This is a clever way for this BTS senior to go about re-setting his image and to adjust to the mainstream world of today.

Creating various content, alongside promoting his songs, Lee Hyun has stepped closer and closer to the other HYBE Labels’ artists modus operandi. When the new HYBE headquarters opened, he was the first one to do the building tour. He also made various content, such as reactions to other HYBE’s artists' music videos and, as previously delved into, acting as the other HYBE’s groups’ management team. He also learned the “Permission to Dance” choreography as a support to his juniors.

Lee Hyun is a senior whom BTS respects a lot. Being the only senior from the same label, it’s easy to tell how much his presence and support have meant to BTS. Now that he has tasted the world of BTS’ management team, what would it be if the role is reversed? Let’s cross our fingers and hope for more Lee Hyun and BTS interaction in the future.
