BTS x ARMY: THE POWER DUO

We can’t talk about love without mentioning the bond between BTS and ARMY. This global Grammy nominated group managed to share their attention, affection, and attentiveness without over-sharing their private lives. They created a deep trust through their ability and courage to be transparent with their vulnerability and hardship. As we’ve mentioned in the previous Fall Series blog, "Behind the Days of Love" - love doesn’t have a definite form, so too is the love between BTS and ARMY. That’s why this Power Duo takes matters into their own hands and materializes their love.

PROJECTS AND CHARITIES

Going live on their birthday is a tradition for BTS. No matter which part of the world they find themselves in, it’s an important occasion to connect with ARMY that they never miss. Exchanging congratulations, thanks, and anecdotes from our lives, the relationship feels like good friends catching up. The evidence of our care for each other doesn’t stop there however, ARMY also pass their love to others by paying it forward. Several charity projects to help those in need, to care for the environment, help women and children in need, to promote art appreciation were held to celebrate the members’ birthdays, and uphold causes they care about. It has been a tradition for ARMYs since BTS’ debut, but it has become more frequent after BigHit and BTS stopped accepting physical gifts and as the fandom grew.

SPECIAL KEYWORDS

You must have heard the terms #SkyFor, #Namjooning, and “Borahae.” We could call it a special keyword only BTS and ARMY could understand, although Borahae “I Purple you” grew so popular that it has surpassed the boundaries of K-pop now.

The #SkyFor hashtag began from December 7, 2020, under a post when RM commented the post below:

This started a trend for ARMY to post pictures of skies with the caption #SkyFor [+ member name]. The most posted one was #SkyForYoongi after BigHit and SUGA announced his shoulder surgery.

“Namjooning” came a year before the “Sky For” hashtag, during their first-ever vacation after six years of creating hit after hit and performing from one stage to another.

A fan asked what they were doing during their vacation, and RM replied with “I’m Namjooning,” which means he’s doing what he loves such as being in nature, enjoying arts, cycling, and more.

This word led to the development of the same type of wording for other members: during the first and second seasons of In The SOOP BTS Version, the term [band member]+ing” was very popular, capturing each member doing their own thing in a relaxing environment.

Going back to the 3rd Muster, we can remember the beginning of the most important words for BTS and the ARMYs: “Borahae” or “I purple you.” This word was made by V, with “Bora'' meaning “Purple” and borrowing the “hae” from “Saranghae,” it’s grown to mean “I love you.” V gave it the meaning that, “Purple is the last color of the rainbow. Purple means I will trust you and love you for a long time.”

BTS FESTA

In English, Festa means “celebration.” In Italy and other Mediterranean countries, it means “festival.” For ARMY and BTS, “FESTA” means Bangtan Sonyeondan’s debut celebration. Starting from the beginning of June until the day before their anniversary on June 13th, BTS releases content after content exclusively for ARMY. But, the highlight of this content is the one-hour video of BTS taking a trip down memory line through their career until they catch up to the present.

ENDING MENT

With this, our Fall Series has come to an end. It’s been a long journey through all the festivals and celebrations from all over the world, and of course, we have to close it by celebrating BTS and ARMYs’ love for each other through various occasions.

The latest one would probably be how ARMYs were defending themselves and BTS after a certain show host generalized ARMYs as fifteen year-old girls. Turns out, BTS was very much aware of the tension and decided to clear the air on national television the next time they met said show host.

We hope we did justice in capturing all the celebrations we’ve written about in this series. As the snow is getting nearer, the last leaf from the tree has fallen, and the holiday season is around the corner, we’ll meet you next in the Winter Series.
